And then there is **BM Snacks **, a tiny kiosk under a tree in Mandi House that has been serving generations of dreamers, strugglers, artists, actors, writers, musicians, and theatre enthusiasts for more than three decades.
Located just steps away from the National School of Drama (NSD) and directly opposite the Sri Ram Centre, BM Snacks is not a restaurant in the conventional sense. There are no fancy interiors, no air-conditioning, and no elaborate menus. Yet it enjoys a cult status that many celebrated restaurants can only dream of.
Its greatest claim to fame?
A plate of legendary Chole Bhature.
For thousands of theatre students and aspiring actors, BM Snacks was never just a food stop—it was survival fuel. Affordable, filling, quick, and consistently delicious, its chole bhature became the meal that powered endless rehearsals, auditions, script readings, and performances.
Over the years, almost every major name to emerge from Delhi’s theatre circuit has passed through this corner. The likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Om Puri, Irrfan Khan, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Manoj Bajpayee, Piyush Mishra, Pankaj Tripathi, Rajpal Yadav, Sanjay Mishra, and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub have all been part of the larger Mandi House ecosystem that revolved around places like BM Snacks.
But the real magic of BM Snacks goes beyond food.
Here, a struggling actor and an acclaimed director can be found standing side by side. Scripts are discussed over cups of tea. Dialogues are rehearsed on wooden benches. Friendships are forged, careers are launched, and stories are born.
