Hi @TravelClever ,

That’s a great collection of snacks! I’m curious, what does the Special Chivda taste like?

Tagging our Connect Moderator from Pune, @TusharSuradkar , to see if he’s tried any of these, too, and has a recommendation.

By the way, I’ll change the topic of your post to Food & Drink as that’s the best place to talk about anything food-related. Thanks! :plate_with_cutlery:

Pune, Chitale Bandhu, and Bakarwadi go together.

Chitale is the family name and Bandhu means the Chitale brothers who originally invented, perfected, and popularized Bakarwadi which is now famous all over India.

Many other snacks brands tried to imitate the taste of the Bakarwadi but no one could come close to the tantalizing taste of the Chitale’s.

When working in Bangalore, 700 km away from Pune, I would always return to work with extra luggage full of Chitale Bakarwadi since everyone in the office wanted me to hand-pick it from their outlet in Pune.

Packaged Bakarwadi does not taste the same as the fresh ones from their official outlets.

Chitale Bandhu outlets were often mocked and laughed at their system of keeping the shops closed every day from 12 noon to 4 pm since everyone in the shop would take an afternoon nap. They followed this for more than 75 years. When they discontinued this practice recently, it was a headline in the local newspapers

The Special Chivda @DeniGu are spicy flakes with a few herbs added for taste though Chitale Brothers would add sugar to it making them taste a bit sweeter and this was also a subject of ridicule by everyone.

Not just that, the famous Chitale Bandhu brothers were ridiculed by everyone for not opening a single branch outside their home in old Pune city for several decades and it was only a few years ago that they have spread out all over Pune with 18 branches and also started packaging their products. An outlet is only a few hundred meters away from my home in Pune and avoiding the temptation of buying the tastiest Bakarwadi is a daily struggle :yum: The taste is irresistible and I have been enjoying the Bakarwadi for the past 30+ years.

Excellent post, photos, and video @TravelClever
