Hello everyone! All around the world, it’s Cherry Blossom season!
Cherry blossoms are called “Sakura” in Japanese (桜) and when they blossom, there are “Sakuramatsuri” (桜まつり) which means Cherry Blossom festival! These can be hour long events involving a lot of photography!
If they haven’t already blossomed and the petals are raining down, they’ll be open soon! It’s all based upon where you are, how warm it is, and the species!
Cherry Blossoms, regardless of species and color, are beautiful and part of their beauty does not last very long!
Have you captured this season? If so, where?
I have captured them for over a decade all over the New York Metro area, New Jersey and Washington D.C. just growing around town, in green spaces and botanical gardens!
Where have you gone to find them?
Let’s just have a nice thread showing a single photo of Cherry Blossoms you caught this year in 2023 and talking about where!
Here is a faraway shot I took of white species of Cherry Blossoms (Yoshino/染井吉野) at the Brooklyn Botanical Garden! I had to resize it and crop it to share with you and I hope that it’s okay!
So, I was able to catch some Kanzan/Sekiyama (関山) species of Cherry Blossoms before many of the Cherry Blossoms here reached peak bloom and have gone or are falling now! Kanzan are one of my favorite types because of how puffy they are! They remind me of clouds! These are very popular due to how full the trees get!
I hope all of you like this close-up in the trees (which I also had to size down) also shot here in New York but on Long Island last week where it is a bit cooler than the NYC and the five boroughs!
Oh my… I do miss Cherry blossoms in NYC and obviously the one in Japan and all over the world @Whip0fAlchemy . It brings me joy to see its beautiful flowers.
You have captured such lovely moments! I was at the Sakuramatsuri at the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens in 2018 as well! How funny! The Cherry Esplanade was so very pink that year, the rows of Kanzan so heavy with blossoms, the sky like pink clouds!
The cherry blossom is so captivating, wherever they grow!
Thank YOU so much for such beautiful memories! And a peek into your travels!
I hope to travel someday to see more of them and the landscapes they decorate!
Thank you @Velvel for your kind words—it means a lot! With each tree I saw, I tried to think of just how to capture how it grew! I myself felt lost in the beauty of the moment!
I am hoping that even though my favorite season of summer approaches, more people from around the world will share their beautiful works here too!
I was looking for it because I received an invitation.
This year, Fukuoka bloomed quickly and fell quickly.
So, although the weather was bad, here are some photos I took in Kagoshima.
Thank you for such a nice post of sharing the beauty of sakura in Fukuoka prefecture! I do not get to see many photos of this area, so it is refreshing!
Your photos of the petals in the water around local sites is very beautiful! This year in New York, some species also fell early, so I also witnessed this and was charmed, taking a few photos but entranced by the scene! It was like a living painting!
Thank you so much for sharing! Much appreciated, yes!
