One of my favorite summer activities when I was a kid was building sandcastles on the beach. I would use buckets and molds to construct what I believed were exquisite sand kingdoms, complete with seashell decorations and sometimes even hermit crab guards. And while I still hold my work in the highest regard, the truth is even my best sandcastle is laughable compared to the creations at Texas SandFest, which are not mere sandcastles, but rather sand sculptures.
Texas SandFest is a unique competition and festival held in Port Aransas every year where teams and individuals race against the clock to create some of the most stunning and extreme sand sculptures you’ll ever see. Local Guide Albert has competed in the competition in previous years, but last year, he was asked to help run it—and we tagged along.
Watch as Local Guide Albert explores the festival, and see which master sand-sculptor will prevail.
