Hi! I’m new here; I’m a travel and adventure photographer working out of Accra, Ghana in West Africa. I’d like to share some of what I’ve been up to this year to help shine a light on some very interesting travel destinations in Africa. In this series of posts I’ll be featuring São Tomé e Príncipe, twin island nation and Africa’s 2nd smallest after Seychelles.
Day 1
Accra (Ghana) Departure, São Tomé Arrival
We made it to the airport with plenty of time to spare, but totally forgot that we needed to go to Customs for a Temporary Exportation Permit to cover the key pieces of equipment we were travelling with. By the time we remembered it was almost 3.10pm, flight was due to leave at 4.00pm. Customs of course took their sweet time, and then we had to fill out that dreaded immigration form (as of April 2023 this step is no longer a requirement in Ghana, thankfully!) before passing through to security.
We ended up dashing for the plane with our names blaring over the airport PA incessantly reminding us of how we were delaying the flight! At least we felt noticed, so that was nice!

Touched down in São Tomé City to a lovely sunset and endured the interminable wait at immigration (they are really slow!) till we finally got through, paid for our visas and went to rescue our lonely bags riding the carousel like some abandoned children on a deserted merry-go-round.
