Chapri is one of the most famous street foods of Tangail. Such food items are often seen along roadsides in Tangail city. It is very tasty to eat. Whenever I visit a city I try to eat such traditional food. Because the traditions and food habits of that area come closer to me to be experienced. Moreover, it is very enjoyable!
The main ingredient for making chapri is rice flour. Then different types of pulses flour, onions, turmeric and various spices. At the time of manufacture, it is very large, with a diameter of 24 or 36 inches. It is not possible for one person to eat such a large chapri. So the shopkeepers cut it into small slices and sell it. Such a slice can easily be eaten by two people! The price is only 20 Bangladeshi Taka.
Chapri should be eaten with different types of Bharta’s. We were served potato bharta and coriander bharta made with onions and chillies. Both were very hot. Actually, spicy is the main flavor of chapri. Chapri shops are usually not organized. There is some seating in a very poor environment. The place is not always cleaned. Yet people flock to eat this type of food. They sit by the hearth and enjoy the meal. I have eaten food, that is very close in taste to chapri in Rajshahi city.
Definitely recommend this dish when visiting Tangail. It’s especially nice to see the process of making it face-to-face.
