Pune will enjoy a Zero Shadow Day on 13th May as the Sun comes exactly overhead at local noon on this day.
Every place in the Tropic Zone, between latitudes ±22.5°, has two Zero Shadow Days a year:
1. One when the Sun travels north, between the March equinox and the June solstice.
2. Another is when it travels south, between the June solstice and the September equinox.
I will be stepping out in the open, celebrating this annual phenomenon.
Local guides in Pune can join me; let’s decide on a place to meet.
Challenge:
- Find out the latitude of your location using Google Maps.
- Find out your Zero Shadow Day online or by asking ChatGPT.
- Go out in the open and take a selfie with your Zero Shadow.
- Share your experience on Connect with the Google Maps location.
Meetup: Depending on the day and convenience, host a meetup.
After the zero shadow celebration:
- Go to a nearby Cafe, Ice Cream Parlor, or Cold Drink house.
- Sip some cold coffee, get some ice cream, or a cold drink,
- Update the local business, and add to Google Maps if not already, add some photos or videos, answer a few questions, gain points and badges on Google Maps.
Note:
-
If you cannot take a selfie, share the photo of any interesting object, like a pole or a tree that is not casting a shadow.
-
Don’t forget to share the Google Maps location in your post.
-
Do not stare a the Sun
Zero Shadow Day not only offers a moment of wonder but also serves as an educational opportunity around our location on Google Maps, and discover local small businesses to #BeatTheHeat and be a #DilSeLocal guide.

This is such a fascinating challenge—thanks for sharing, @TusharSuradkar ji!
Although my location doesn’t fall within the Zero Shadow Day zone, I’m still excited to explore this phenomenon virtually and support fellow Local Guides who can experience it in person.
Edit: I searched on Google and found the dates of Zero shado day in my area (Gangapur City). Now I will plan a meet-up as suggested by you.

We shall be eagerly waiting to see your photos…
Thanks for sharing this interesting challenge.

According to the table in the post, there will be another Zero Shadow Day in Bengaluru on August 18. Local Guides in BLR can plan around that day.
It’s a very thoughtful challenge showcasing the fascinating Zero Shadow phenomenon (when the Sun is directly overhead) @TusharSuradkar !
I’ll also be participating in this challenge. For Kolkata, the Zero Shadow Days are on June 5 and July 7. I’ll be sure to capture a photo and share it in the Connect to join the challenge.

Meanwhile, find out the latitude of your location.
I think it’s Bengaluru?
In that case, the Zero Shadow Day for your location will be 18 August.

Let’s plan to meet at the Old Mumbai outlet, though it seems difficult at mid noon, since it is a working day.
Hello dear @TusharSuradkar
Thanks for your kind response.
Of course, I found out the relevant details:
2025 - August 18th
2026 - April 23rd & around August 18th.
Hope this will help you…
