Local Guides, cameras at the ready! Today, on International Burger Day, we’re launching a new challenge, and it’s a delicious one.
Did you know that over 80%[1] of people check the menu online before deciding on a new restaurant? Adding menu photos directly in Google Maps helps both restaurant-goers make a decision about where to eat and businesses reach the right crowd. And Local Guides are the trustworthy link between the two!
To kick off this new menu photos challenge — and celebrate International Burger Day — our Google team in New York went to a local restaurant for a burger crawl (see the photo above of some of the tasty burgers we tried!). Are you ready to join us and get the chance to win a Connect badge? Here’s how.
The challenge
- Take a photo of the menu pages/board at a restaurant, bakery, coffee shop, or another food and beverage business. Make sure that the text is easy to read and that the photos are not dark or blurry.
- Add your photos on Google Maps via the ‘Menu’ tab (see the steps further below).
- Share a link to at least one of your photos in the comments by June 15 (included). You can participate with a photo that was added on Google Maps in May or June 2025.
To add menu photos in the Google Maps app on your phone, open the business listing and go to the ‘Menu’ tab. There, under ‘View menu,’ tap on ‘Add menu’ and upload your photos. You can also add menu photos from your computer; simply click on the business listing’s cover photo, navigate to the ‘Menu’ tab, and click ‘+ Add photos and videos’ at the bottom of the page.
To share a link to your photo, open Google Maps on your computer. In the top left, click on the hamburger menu and select ‘Your contributions.’ Choose ‘Photos’ and find the photo you want to share. In the top right corner of the image, click on the three dots and then ‘Share.’ Copy the link and paste it in your comment.
If you uploaded more than one menu photo, great! But you only need to share the link to ONE of them to participate in the challenge.
The criteria
We will consider helpfulness, quality, and originality. Your contribution should follow our Community policy and the Maps user-generated content policy. Images of menus taken from the internet will not qualify.
The winners
Everyone whose photo follows the challenge instructions and criteria above will be awarded a Connect challenge winner badge or will be added to our running lists of challenge winners.
The results of this challenge will be announced in a new post.
We can’t wait to see your photos! Join this challenge by June 15 by sharing a link to your Google Maps contribution in the comments below.
