Challenge: Share ♿ information on Google Maps to win a Connect badge

Update June 3, 2024: Hi everyone, thank you for taking part in this challenge! Submissions are closed. Please allow us some time to go through all the entries. We will announce the results in a new post. Stay tuned!

As Local Guides, you all have done so much to make the map more accessible. Accessibility contributions help not only your local community but visitors as well. Whether you live in a big city that hosts international events — like Paris this summer — a small historic town that’s popular among tourists, or a beautiful rural area that attracts nature lovers, letting others know what to expect before visiting can make a world of difference.

So, in honor of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 16, we’re launching a new Connect challenge. Join in to make accessibility information more visible for those who need it on Google Maps and for a chance to win a Connect badge!

The challenge

  1. Write a review of an actual experience you had at a place.
  2. Include the :wheelchair: iconin your review and mention if the entrance or restroom of the place is accessible. Entrances and stalls should be approximately 3 feet/1 meter wide (about the width of 2 people) and step-free.
  3. You can participate with a review that has been posted on Google Maps between May 1 and May 31, 2024.
  4. Share a link to your review in the comments below before May 31 (included).

If a place has missing or incorrect information for wheelchair accessibility on Google Maps, you can suggest the correct information. Learn how here.

Note: To share a review, open Google Maps on your computer or phone, go to your profile, find your review, and tap the Share button under it. Copy the link and paste it in your comment.

The criteria

We will consider helpfulness, quality, and originality. This means that you should describe your genuine experience in your own words and not copy information from the internet. Your review should follow our Community policy and the Maps user-generated content policy.

The winners

Everyone whose review follows the challenge instructions and criteria above will be awarded the Accessibility Challenge Winner badge on Connect! If you won the badge in our previous accessibility challenge, don’t worry. We will be awarding the regular challenge badges as well as keeping track of all wins.

The results for this challenge will be announced in a new post.

Join this challenge by May 31. Share your Google Maps review in the comments below for a chance to win a Connect badge!

Another exciting challenge @DeniGu . In honor of the Global Accessibility Awareness Day on May 16, I’m in and I just know that fellow Local Guides will join in and make this a really successful challenge!

Update: While out there pounding the pavement participating in this challenge @DeniGu , I came across a missing place on Maps that I wanted to include in this challenge. Unfortunately, it was late in the month and so while I managed to add the missing place to Maps, and while it was marked as Accepted, the pin sd yret hasn’t been added on Maps and so, sadly, I have not been able to add my accessibility review and photos for this POI. I’m assuming that while the missing place has been accepted, it is still in the moderation system’s checking for accuracy queue!

Thanks for sharing @DeniGu , this is a great way to honor Global Accessibility Awareness!

Here’s the review I wrote about Centro de Cultura Digital https://maps.app.goo.gl/ib36cPNkLMATKngS7

I liked that it had wide ramps to enter the museum, whisch is underground, the elevator was reserved only for PwD, there was an interactive exhibition with lights.

This is amazing @DeniGu . A review would never include accessibility testing. But this time, in honor of today, I’m up for the challenge. :pray:t2:

Happy to see new challenges.

Thanx for that @DeniGu :grinning:

Especially when it talks about accessibility :wheelchair: !

A super important thing for me and people around me.

Here is a review I made on the last international airport terminal I visited a few days ago in Dubai.

I believe it was very accessible.

Hi @DeniGu !

I love this challenges   !

Following my review:

https://maps.app.goo.gl/U7bL1VWnDnakvzar6

This is a very special place that apart from being totally accesible with accesible bathrooms, ramps, etc., it takes inclusion to another level giving employment to more than 50 young people with disabilities.

You can read more about this place and why I included it in this challenge in the post Global Accessibility Awareness Day: Discovering “Alameda” I wrote today.

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to participate in these challenges!

Hello @DeniGu , thanks for posting a new topic about Accessibility :wheelchair: Awareness Day 14th May.

Actually, I had a chance to help a student who had to appear at exams 2 years ago. But a very confident and riding on a three wheel cycle, he just gave a smile and moved away.

So I have to narrate this incidence to you and participants of this community forum.

What a great way to honor Global Accessibility Awareness  A couple of weeks ago, I was in Paris with my family and we found this amazing restaurant where we ate one of the best meals of our trip. Hope you find this review useful.
