I’m incredibly excited to participate in this challenge. When I first read about it, I couldn’t help myself from making a list because I love creating them and, most importantly, helping people. I’ve curated a list of 9 inspiring Local Heroines from Porto Alegre, Brazil. 
These are all women-led businesses that I personally admire and support. From sustainable fashion and artisanal jewelry to circus arts and ‘made by women’ cafes, each place tells a unique story. I truly believe these inspiring women are changing our local industry with heart and purpose.

@Julie_A It took a while to put this list together but here’s Manchester’s Local Heroines!
Arguably, I could have listed more by adding the individual studios in the Manchester Craft And Design Centre but I opted to keep it concise under one listing. I would have liked to add more local cafes/restaurants/shops but it’ll be easier when I’m back in the UK to verify with the owners themselves. I did search online but the information seems vague at times.

I am thrilled to participate in this meaningful #LocalHeroines challenge.
I explored various parts of Barishal city and created a list celebrating women-owned places in my hometown.
I personally walked through different neighborhoods of Barishal to find incredible spots. One of the photo I have already uploaded to Google Maps and made an edit. This small business is a wonderful example of a local woman building her livelihood with determination and pride.

When I first read this challenge, I paused for a moment.
I know how important it is to support women-led businesses, and I truly value that intention. But personally, I didn’t feel completely comfortable building my list around that.
As a woman and as someone who runs a business, I’ve always felt that we are fully capable of competing, creating, and growing on equal terms. Sometimes, highlighting a business because it is run by a woman doesn’t feel empowering to me as it can feel like we need a separate category to stand out.
I also come from a professional background that is traditionally male-dominated. It wasn’t always easy, but I built my career, grew into leadership roles, and today I work side by side with male colleagues on equal footing. That experience shaped how I see this topic: not from a place of limitation, but from one of capability.
At the same time, I’m also mindful about visibility. In some contexts, emphasizing that a business is run by a woman can unintentionally expose her or even affect how others perceive or approach that business. It’s a complex balance, and one that I navigate in my own journey as well.
So instead of focusing on that, I chose a different path. I created a list of places in Buenos Aires where the legacy of women is already part of the city: spaces we walk by, visit, or pass through, often without knowing the stories behind their names.
Through this list, I rediscovered figures like Victoria Ocampo, who opened doors for culture and ideas; Eva Perón, whose impact still shapes social rights; Julieta Lanteri, who challenged the limits of her time; Lola Mora, who created despite strong resistance; Juana Azurduy, who fought in wars rarely told from a woman’s perspective; and María Elena Walsh, who shaped generations through her word,

As many Ukrainian women flee to Poland from the war and struggle to earn a living in a foreign country, I decided to start a list of small businesses in Poznan, Poland, led by Ukrainian women. They all deserve support and praise for their great efforts to navigate a foreign culture and legal regulations.
Regardless of the challenge, I intend to update the list any time I can.

A restaurant serving the better Congolese and African dishes throughout the city. Plus, the restaurant’s terrace offers a breathtaking view of the city of Bukavu and Lake Kivu, a place I can’t miss!
A perfect coffee shop where even if we’re really late, if it’s on my route, I stop for a good coffee. One of the few coffee shops in the city of Bukavu that serves coffee grown, roasted, and ground in Kivu. Morning and evening, we always stop by!

To join the challenge, I had to find 5 places with powerful stories about women in Kenya. Kenya is a country where women are among the hardest workers; you can easily find female drivers, soldiers, etc., which is truly wonderful… Below are some of the places I found for the celebration:

Being a women myself, I see the constant struggles and challenges faced by women from different walks of lives. So, whenever I can, I take the opportunity to promote, advocate and fight for women’s rights, in various ways.
I really appreciate this challenge @Julie_A .. it’s great to be recognised and hopefully we will have more and more features in Google Maps which can accomodate women’s specific needs.
Congratulations as well to @Globe_trotter_Ish @FalguniP and @Erna_LaBeau for their initiatives and accomplishment on this issue.
