Chai Pe Charcha - Koyla Chai - A Wonderful Tea Cafe in Karachi

Hello Local Guides,

On Friday night, after a long time, I had the chance to visit a wonderful place that used to be a regular weekend spot for me.

Since this is part of the #ChaipeCharcha series initiated by @TusharSuradkar Bhai, and after his suggestion to write about it, I thought, why not share something about this unique tea café known as Koyla Chai .

Let me tell you something special, when this Café first opened around 5 to 6 years ago, I started visiting it with my friend Salman Niyaz Khan. At that time, it had just been added to Google Maps. I met the owner, gave him a demo on how to claim his business on Google, and explained how he could regularly update it to boost its visibility on Google Search, completely free of cost. Even after six years, he still remembers this and warmly welcomes me whenever I visit.

One of the most interesting aspects of this café is that, initially, we went more for the live singing performances, especially to hear the talented singer Hyder, than for the tea. But over time, their amazing Doodh Patti Chai (milk tea) made on Koyla (Coal) and served in clay pots (matkis) truly won our hearts.

After almost a year, I recently visited again, and the place has transformed beautifully. What made me happiest was seeing that the rooftop is now :wheelchair_symbol:accessible via lift, making it convenient for people using wheelchairs or anyone with mobility challenges.

I must share this proudly, my first review of this place was five years ago, and about three years back, I edited that review to suggest the installation of a lift for accessibility. I’ve since updated my Google Maps review again to reflect that the café is now completely :wheelchair_symbol: accessibility-friendly. During each of my visits, I spoke with the management about making the café more inclusive, and I feel extremely proud and happy that they acted on my suggestion, something that became a reality with the new passenger lift.

Interestingly, we’ve never hosted a Local Guides meetup here. I’m considering it now, though it may not have happened earlier because this Café is slightly more expensive than others, likely due to its ambiance, live music, and prime location near the Karachi Port in the south of the city. Another reason could be its distance from most Local Guides who usually meet up in more central areas.

Still, I’m seriously thinking of celebrating Connect’s birthday here this time. That way, when the birthday announcement is made on the mic, everyone present, whether they know about Local Guides or not, will hear our message.

I’d like to thank @TusharSuradkar for inviting me to write under the #ChaiPeCharcha theme. It gave me a chance to highlight one of Karachi’s beautiful gems, a place I personally love and cherish deeply.

Hi @KashifMisidia Thanks for sharing. Tea is one of my weak points. I think it is impossible to relax without drinking 8-10 cups a day. I have tried different teas from many countries, but my favorite is Turkish and English tea. I hope one day I will have the opportunity to try these different teas from Asia. I’m especially curious about the one made with milk in India that I watched on YouTube. @TusharSuradkar

Tea without milk is unthinkable in India @Gezendunyali
They are an integral part.
Same here, I consume several cups of tea a day to keep going, though not to mention, they are with milk, with the right balance.

This comes as no surprise since India is among the top producers and consumers of Tea and Milk as well.

BTW, English tea sounds interesting
They don’t have any tea plantations that I read about last.

Yes, in fact, it is not available under normal conditions, but it comes from other countries. Five o’clock tea is an indispensable thing for the British. I hope we will all have the chance to try it together one day. @TusharSuradkar :folded_hands:

@Gezendunyali brother,
As you shared about Turkish tea, as you know I visited Turkiye in September 2024, and it was a round trip of Turkiye. We spend 10 days there, and after coming back to Pakistan, my taste buds were changed, and my inner soul was asking just Turkish tea, even I wasn’t liking milk tea here
So I’m so much fond of Turkish Tea, I brought a packet here, and enjoyed it for a month.
Thanks for helping me to recall beautiful memories in Turkiye.
I would love to let you visit this place which I shared with you, whenever you will be in Karachi inshaAllah.
