Dear Cat Lovers,
Today is our festival!
Here is the official site.
I am sharing some of my favourite cat photos - all taken by me, all dedicated to my 3 beloved cats: Goose, Bobby and Maddie (and a fallen one: Maverick)
In May 2020, just before our first lockdown, we adopted two cats: Maverick and Goose, yes, I guess the original owner was a Top Gun fan. The duo immediately won our hearts.
On February 12, 2021, at 6:30 am, we lost our beloved family cat Maverick. He was such a gentle soul with a great personality: friendly, loyal, and playful. We were all devastated, in disbelief and denial. We thought this was a normal Friday, however, Maverick’s life was cut short tragically. He was hit by a passing car just outside our next door on the road. A pool of blood was left. When my wife picked him up after someone rang her, he was motionless and bleeding. We expected to see a grumpy old fat cat one day, but this just wouldn’t happen anymore. He was just less than one year old. We all cried. The emotional toll is just beyond imagination. We couldn’t cope with the tremendous loss. Everything we see at home or in the yard, he was there and there is always a photo or video. I kept asking myself: if I park my car on the left side of the road, or I didn’t watch that stupid movie the night before, would everything be different? I still remember vividly what happened last Friday that I thought was just another normal fun-filled day for Maverick and Goose. It’s 6:15 am in the morning, My wife called out to me to open the cat door. I walked to the cat door. Maverick was miaowing. Goose sat on the chair where I put my computer bag. She sat there quietly. I opened the cat door. Maverick was a little bit hesitant. I didn’t anticipate what would happen in the next 30 minutes. I looked at him saying to myself: come on tiger! It’s your playtime. I ended up being the only person at home to have a final glance at him. However that’s just a glance, it’s not a goodbye. God knows what he suffered from being hit by a running car.
When I got home Friday afternoon. He has been cleaned, laying on a piece of cloth. We put all his favourite food and toys with him, plus his collar. We lit a candle and called his name gently. I compiled a farewell video with an instrumental version of Memory from Cats. He was cremated on Saturday as the temperature was quite high. We lost a little prince, a companion, a hunter and an explorer. But he will always live in our memories.
Rest in Peace Maverick
Maverick was cremated. We had a small ceremony to say goodbye to him.
In June 2022, we adopted another tubby cat, Bobby.
