Celebrating “Rakhi” (Raksha Bandhan):- Popular Indian Festival(Part-1)

Raksha Bandhan**:-** “Knot of Protection” ( the commitment and protection of sister)

Raksha Bandhan is a Hindu festival that celebrates the relationship between brothers and sisters, on the full moon of the Hindu month of Shravana (Shravan Poornima), or around July and August. This year the festival celebrated on August 3, Monday.

✤Significance of Raksha Bandhan✤

Raksha bandhan is one of the biggest festivals of Hindus. It is a festival of unbreakable relationship between brothers and sisters. On this day, the sisters tie a Rakhi on the wrists of their brothers and wish them a long life. At the same time, the brothers promise to protect their sister. Rakhi holds great emotional and religious significance.

✤Celebrations of Raksha Bandhan✤

The festival of Raksha Bandhan, brings the entire family together. The day starts with everyone dressing up beautifully in traditional attires.

First, she apply the tilak and then the akshat on the forehead. then ties a rakhi on her brother’s wrist. (Traditionally, a Rakhi must be tied to the right hand) and performs aarti, praying for his well-being and then sweetens his mouth with a delicacy. Brothers in return give gifts to their sisters to express their love.

✤History of Raksha Bandhan✤

There are many historical evidences exist in Indian history regarding celebration of Hindu festival of Raksha Bandhan but The story of Rajputana Rani Karnavati and Mughal Emperor Humayun is the most popular evidence in the history.

Rani Karnawati was the widowed queen of the king of Chittor. which had been attacked by Bahadur Shah, Sultan of Gujarat.

The queen realized that defending her Empire from the invasion was not possible for her. In such a situation she sent a Rakhi to the Mughal Emperor, Humayun.

If seen, Rakhi is a festival of Hindus but Humayun was a Muslim. Even after the separation of religion, he kept the shame of his Rakhi and decided that he would definitely go for her help.

Humayun moved towards Chittor with a huge army to protect Chittor. It took him a long time to reach Chittor with riding elephants and horses. But by the time Humayun reached Chittor, Rani Karnavati had done Jauhar with the Vittaranas of Chittor.

(Jauhar:- mass suicide for avoid the indignity of falling in the hands of Bahadur Shah)

Bahadur Shah captured Chittor. Humayun was very sad to hear this news and attacked Chittor. Humayun got victory in this war. After this Humayun handed over the entire rule to Vikramjit Singh.
