I visited St Augustine 2018 on business trip. I had enough time to explore the town and visit Castillo de San Marcos and walk around in the down town St Augustine, also capture several pictures of this very interesting vibrant town.

Here is some history about Castillo de San Marcos. (Refence: St Augustine Web Site and Wikipedia) This is oldest masonry fort in United States. This is more than 315 years old. This is a National Monument, also one of the oldest structure in St Augustine. This happens to be one of the main tourist attraction in St Augustine.

There are Ranger led tours as part of the admission to the fort. However I visited late in the evening and was able to walk around the fort and missed the official tour.

Also World Golf Hall of Fame is located around 30 Miles from Downtown St Augustine. I had opportunity to stay right next to World Golf Hall of Fame. That is another interesting place to visit. Great place to learn all about the accomplishments of golfers from around the world.

I recently read this article on Castillo de San Marcos and it captures most aspects about the national monument. What I advise though is take a guided tour the first time, then come back at a later date and just soak in the history of this place.
