Can't Write a Review Directly from the Place Page

Hi,

When I click on any place (e.g., a Hotel) in Google Maps, I don’t see any option to write a review directly from the pop-up info panel or place page. Instead, I have to go to the Contributions tab, select Add Review, and then search for the place manually.

I tried clearing cache, clearing data, and logging out & back in, but it still doesn’t work. Even one of my friends has the same issue.
I’ve also attached a video showing the problem (sorry for the low quality, I reduced the size so you can download it more easily).

Is this normal, or is there a setting/issue causing this?

@Sami_H this isn’t normal; ensure your Google Maps is updated. If it persists after reinstalling the app, check if it’s app-specific by trying the web version. Since it’s happening to your friend too, it might be a broader issue. Report it to Google Support with your video, and keep using the Contributions tab for reviews until a fix is released.

It is true that there’s not a “write a review” command in there, but you are invited to rate the place, because rating it is always the first step to write a review.
Once you give the rating a new screen will opens, where you can write your review

Unfortunately, I don’t even have the star rating feature. Here’s a screenshot.

(I explored further in the video I posted earlier, in case that helps)

however, I can access the second screenshot you provided, but only by going through the Contributions tab, searching for the place, and so on, which is really inconvenient.

I also considered whether this might be due to Iran’s sanctions, but I don’t think that’s the case, since I don’t even see the Rate and Review tab for places outside Iran, like a museum in Cambridge, UK.

I don’t think this is related to Iran, but let me tag @Amiran for an additional feedback.
I will also escalate it to @DeniGu , because I don’t have any insight about the reason why there is not an option for writing reviews but you can do it by starting from the Contribute page.
I see you already cleaned cache and cookies.
Is your app updated to the last release?

Yes, my app is up to date from Play Store.
This issue has been around for a while, and I’ve noticed that it caused some confusion such as some people writing their reviews in the Q&A section instead!

I hope it gets fixed soon.

Yep @Sami_H, This is normal. It is an issue related to Iran. Some sanctions, like the Google Maps platform sanction, also affected the availability of writing reviews and add photos buttons in the app and we should use other ways to add reviews/photos.

We discussed a lot about it on Connect since 2017 but can’t find it right now (because it was an idea and it has been removed on new Connect).
