Can't redeem Local Guides reward code in Google Play from Germany

Hi,

I recently received an email from Google Local Guides that I am gifted an “Exclusive Google Play audiobook discount”.

I was happily surprised and tried to redeem the included code on the page https://play.google.com/store?code

Unfortunately, I get the following error message when I try to redeem the code: “This code cannot be redeemed from your country.” (Germany)

When I click the “Learn more” link, I get to help page with a decision tree menu, but the country message above is not listed there.

The code should still be applicable as it said in the email:
“Make sure to add the code to your Google Play account by November 29, 2019, and use by December 13, 2019.”

Is there any way to solve this? I mean, Google Play is available in my country and I can purchase things there just fine. Then why is the code not redeemable?

Apologies for the inconvenience! We suggest copy & pasting your unique code from the perk email and adding it directly on Google Play (instead of clicking the “redeem now” link in your email). That should rectify the issue for you, let us know otherwise. Thanks!

Hi AlexaAC, thanks for you assistance! I just came around to try this and copying the code into the Google Play app directly (under Payment Methods, Redeem Code) did unfortunately not resolve the issue. I still get the message that the code cannot be redeemed in my country. Regards, Manuel

As they are no other posts to this topic I would like to just say some words about the reward here.

I received this a few day´s ago and - even if I´m not into audio books for myself, I enjoyed the fact that I got it.

It´s sad that for the years of contribution with facts, photos and informations I only get this restricted “reward”.

Sad that it will decay for no reason because it even couldn´t used for gifting an audio book to one that likes audio books. I would suggest to think twice before making such kind of donations to us.

I Received today a 20% discount code for the whole cart on google store but when I try to collect it buying it says the code is not correct:

“Gutscheincode nicht anwendbar. Prüfe den Einkaufswagen sowie die Gutscheindetails.”

Great that I lost time trying on 3 different devices and can not get my “REWARD”

Sorry but I tried that several times and several different ways… checked for blank spaces and etc. really not being accepted. Should I paste here the code that came in the email for you to test?

Yup, same for me. Also tried multiple times to copy directly on multiple devices, etc.

Final answer from the direct support was, that the code cannot be redeemed in Germany…

I think that this answer is partially correct. My account is somehow set to “US”. That’s also why my wife & I can’t join a Google Family Group…

This is what it says on the bottom of my email, it is in german, so saying its not possible to redeem in germany would be even weirder

So I just discover the voucher works… but only for things that nobody wants anymore like pixel 3aphones and google home … it does not apply for pixel 4 or any subscription or new products… great reward for local guides
