Cancer Awareness via Google Local Guides

Namaste Google! This is Anurag Gupta, a google local guide from India. I am an adventure seeker, a mad foodie, desserts are my drug and I am a passionate photographer.

Today, I am going to write about spreading cancer treatment awareness among people throughout the globe via this Connect post. This post comes right from the hands of a son whose father is fighting from grade 4 brain cancer.

The current scenario

In recent years, cancer has spread drastically and is leaving people helpless. Oncology department of hospitals are getting numerous cases of various kind of cancers from all age groups. Some people are lucky to get it detected at an early stage but not all are fortunate enough. Its treatment is also very expensive, it takes your life’s earnings.

What people don’t know and how local guides can be a great help

With the discovery of cancer, the first thing people do is to approach a renowned cancer hospital and get them checked. Believe me, finding a right doctor for your kind of ailment is a big task.

Google is the first place I reached out to find good doctors. This is where Local guides can help. People visit many clinics and hospitals for various doctors, I myself visited 15 neurosurgeons and neurologists and then came to a conclusion. Each visit brings you a certain experience with the doctor which can be a valuable suggestion for the other patients, if jotted down as google review for that doctor.

Information about doctor’s area of specialization, clinic’s location, appointment process, days of visit, pictures of clinic, its approach-ability from nearby landmarks etc. can bring up big piece of information to a new patient in a small amount of time as there are very rare number of people who have medical connections in family.

How my experience is helping others

Apart from conventional ways of cancer treatment like chemotherapy and radiotherapy, there are other ways to treat cancer which are effective and very cheaper.

With the help of Google and numerous Google reviews, I found out Tibetan Herbal Clinic, in Mcleodganj, Himachal Pradesh, India. I visited there with my father’s medical reports and got herbal medicines at a cost of INR 2500 only, from Dr Yeshi Dhonden, which is really making my father feel better.

I wrote a detailed review of this clinic on Google maps as a Local guide and received a very good response from all over India. People liked my review and there are around 36,000 views for related pictures.

Apart from this, people are putting up their questions and queries, of which 99% are related to cancer. So far, I have answered around 45 such queries. This gives them an insight to the clinic and most importantly, a helping hand in such situations is a great reliever to the patient and family. Especially, when the clinic is only physically reachable or via speed post letter and cannot be connected via phone, email or any of the online means.

What’s in shelf for future

I would love to solve people’s queries and spread awareness about cancer treatment throughout my life with the help of continuously evolving Google Maps and Google Local Guides. Each successfully taken review and a satisfied response by people brings happiness to me because “A person who has suffer-ed/ing from such pain can better understand the pain of others.”

So, whatever it takes, I am always Happy to share and proud to be a Google Local Guide. ?
