Cancelled appeal (unpublished reviews)

Bonjour,

My reviews continue to be systematically unpublished. I have already filled out the Google docs form several times to request that my reviews be republished.

I saw that it was possible to appeal. It worked for two reviews. But since then, it no longer works, I automatically receive an email telling me: (in french)

« Votre appel nous demandant de restaurer votre review a été annulé. Votre review n’est pas en ligne. »

“Your appeal asking us to restore your review has been cancelled. Your review is not online.”

Do you have a solution?

Google Maps is getting too depressing to use. :disappointed:

Hi @atnah50

What appeals form are you using?

The form called Account investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps will not result in any replies from Google.

Could it be that there is a special form dedicated to users in France?

You may want to take a look at Hidden reviews - read this.

Hello @MortenCopenhagen ,

Thank you for your answer. I have read your publication. It is very interesting, thank you for the time you have taken for this. But except for also posting my reviews on Tripadvisor and posting them one after the other when I came back from a trip (no time during the trip), I didn’t have any problematic behaviour (I think). I hope that solutions will be found by Google Maps.

Yes, maybe it’s a special form to french users. Here are some screenshots of what Google Maps France is offering. I thought this was finally a solution, but it doesn’t work well. My appeals are automatically cancelled (appeals can be accepted, rejected or cancelled). I get 2 emails at the same time, one saying that my appeal has been sent, the other that my appeal has been cancelled.

Screens in french (english below):

English translation:

Extract of “Rules regarding appeals”:

" When we find that our Policy on User-Generated Content in Maps (“Content Policy”) is not being followed in Maps, search, and other Google services on the web, we sometimes remove the content in question or limit the ability of Google Accounts to post publicly. However, there are times when we may be wrong.

If you believe that actions have been applied to your Maps content or Google Account in error, you may be able to appeal by following the steps below.

On your Maps profile page, you can view the status of your Maps content and determine if it has been removed for non-compliance. Content may be removed because it doesn’t comply with our policies or because the activity in the Google Account doesn’t comply with our policies. In most cases, you can appeal the removal of the content and track the progress of the process on your Maps profile page.
Note: If you remove or edit the non-compliant content after appealing, the process will be reversed.

Appeal decisions
Once we have made a decision on your appeal, you will be notified. The following decisions are possible:

Appeal approved: If we find that the content was removed in error, we will reinstate it.
Appeal rejected: If we find that the content does not comply with our rules, we will confirm its removal.
Cancelled appeal: We may cancel the appeal if, for example, the content is changed or deleted, or if the Google Account is no longer authorized to appeal.
You can only appeal a content removal once. "

Thanks, @atnah50

I remember clearly one Local Guide who published her reviews in parallel on her own blog. Word by word the reviews were copied between the two platforms. After all, it was her words! This was detected by the spam filter as stolen text. And none of the reviews went public. So publishing the same review texts on both Tripadvisor and Google Maps can cause problems.

Thanks for all the screenshots. I will study them.

Thanks again, @atnah50 .

@ErmesT Please take a look at https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/12648169

This help page is news to me. I believe it is linked to our French collegues as the appeals button is found only under reviews of French businesses that are marked hidden. See the screenshots shared by @atnah50 above.

I wonder how this appeals method related to the one provided via the form called: Account investigation for contributions not visible on Google Maps

I noticed how the appeal can only be done once, and I speculate that this means “per review”. So you can appeal to each hidden review only once.

It is also interesting how editing a review after starting the appeal will stop the process.

When LGs mentioned canceled appeals in recent posts on Connect, we now know what this refers to.

It would be great to know how long it takes to process these appeals. @atnah50 would you be able to share info on this? And maybe examples of what the tracked appeal progress looks like on your profile page as mentioned here: “For most violations, you’ll be able to appeal the content removal and track the appeal progress in your Maps profile page.

Looking forward to learning what you think. It is good to see some changes.

Cheers

Emails are sent to indicate that the appeal has been sent, and then that the appeal has been accepted, refused, or cancelled.
For my accepted appeals, here is the timeline:

  • Monday 23 January 22:09 appeal sent
  • Tuesday 24 January 06:37 appeal accepted
I had 12 reviews put back online on Tuesday 24 January.

Seeing that it was working well, on the morning of 24 January I wanted to appeal several more unpublished reviews (30 reviews). It was probably a lot at once. I thought there was finally a solution. Now I regret it. I didn’t think about it and didn’t think it could be considered spam.
Those 30 appeals were cancelled instantly.
For cancelled appeals, the cancellation email is sent at the same second as the email confirming that the email has been sent. I gave up.

Yesterday I posted 3 new reviews of places visited the old one. Unpublished. I appealed for these 3 reviews, appeals again cancelled.

It is not possible to reapply for an appeal.
Unless I change my unpublished review (whose appeal was cancelled), and wait for it to become unpublished again. Then I can resend an appeal. But it gets cancelled again.
For the modification of reviews after the beginning of the appeal, I don’t know. I have not tried.

For the appeal progress on my Google Maps profile, I can’t give you an example because my appeals are instantly cancelled. But for my first 12 reviews that were republished, this is the email sent:

Email for cancelled appeals:

" We have received your appeal

[Check your review]

A moderator will review your review to determine if you have complied with our rules. We will keep you informed of the decision. Thank you for your patience. "

Thank you.

Greetings,

Thanks @atnah50

All this information is really helpful to understand what is going on. So do you think appeals er PER review or PER account? So local guides have only one appeals chance?

Thanks alså for taking the time to make screenshots in English.

All the best

There are 2 options: “Appealing the removal of content” for unpublished reviews, and "Appealing a public posting restriction" for accounts.

Rules for “Appealing the removal of content” => This is what I had copied in my 2nd message.

Rules for “Appealing a public posting restriction”:
" On your Google Account settings page, you can view the status of your Google Account and determine if your access to public posting has been limited for non-compliance. We may limit public posting if your behavior or the content you post violates our policies. When we limit a Google Account’s ability to post content in public, other content posted by that account may also be removed.

In some cases of non-compliance, you can appeal the posting restriction through your Google Account settings page. If your content has been removed due to a posting restriction, we will also review content removals following your appeal.

Decisions on the appeal
Once we’ve reviewed your Google Account activity and made a decision about your appeal, you’ll be notified. Possible decisions include

Appeal approved: If we can confirm that your Google Account activity complies with our policies, we will restore the account’s ability to post content publicly.
Appeal rejected: If we find that the Google Account may not have complied with our policies, we may continue to restrict the account’s ability to post content publicly and confirm the removal of the account’s content.
Cancelled appeal: We may cancel the appeal if, for example, the Google Account is no longer allowed to appeal.
You can only appeal a public posting restriction once. "
Original post in french : https://support.google.com/contributionpolicy/answer/12648169#zippy=%2Cfaire-appel-dune-limitation-de-publication-en-mode-public

However, I don’t think I have a “public posting restriction” because I can’t view my status and send appeals for my account.
So it seems that you can only appeal once, even when the appeal is automatically cancelled, without going through a moderator.
This seems to me to be a nonsense since one appeals to have a review by a real human, and not to be cancelled once more by a bot…

Hello,

I don’t have this problem. But your problem seems to concern social networks and not Google Maps?

SMALL UPDATE: After completing the Google docs I mentioned in my previous messages, ALL my reviews and deleted photos have been put back online. However, the problem is not solved because my new reviews of places in France are again deleted due to artificial reviews (just the newest posted, not the ancients). On the other hand, if I write reviews in countries other than France, they are not deleted! So the problem is on Google Maps France, it’s not global. But I don’t know any more, and I still don’t have a solution.

14 review of 1014 Reviews was published

1000 reviews was decided as spam???

That’s really frustrating, out of 1,256 reviews only 866 reviews are publicly available, although when I post reviews Business owners seem to get notified as I would get replies at times but for some reason I cannot find almost 99% of my latest reviews online! I never received any notification regarding my reviews ever being unpublished nor that I have violated any rules
