Can you drink... a dumpling?

When we say “dumpling”, we think about Chinese food or about Italian “ravioli” and “tortelli”. In this case I will talk about Chinese dumplings. Can you imagine a big Chinese dumpling with a drinking straw inside? Drinking food may seem strange, but in this case we are dealing with a very particular Chinese recipe: the tangbao. Tangbao is a steamed bun with a drinking straw you use in order to drink the filling. Just like xiaolongbao, particularity of these dumplings is the fact they are filled with a soup and not just with dry ingredients. Eat it, drink it: it’s not a bubble tea, a Halo Halo or a Frappuccino: it’s a tangbao! This recipe is just one of the various regional ones you can find in such a big food tradition.
