Can I review my cobbler who sits on the street

Hello. I met my local cobbler yesterday. He sits on the street with his tools and has been doing so at the same spot since 15years. He doesn’t have a shop. So address is a problem. But he is much sought after person once you need to repair your sandals or shoes. In India we have very few licenced cobblers.

He has learned his craft from his father and this is a 3 generation’s learning.

His work is extremely good. When I buy a pair of sneekers, these days they are stuck and not stiched at the soles. I take it to my cobbler and he does a fantastic job.

Would like to write about him …but don’t know if it would fit in with your rules. Do let me know

Yes even i would like to know… in India we get lot of people who are excellent in their work but are not licensed due to their financial problem, so set up their shop or mobile shops on footpath or road side, so please do let us know if we can review and rate their work.

Hi @AnjuDesai ,

yes you can add those kind of places as far as they are not illegal in your country. If the craft keeps the same location since long than it is indeed an activity which might be worth to be public known for other people as well, if the location changes often then it is not possible to add it as a fixed place.

You can find a list of places which can’t be added to Maps at this page: https://support.google.com/local-guides/answer/2642650?hl=en.

You can add the place by simply point the exact location and add a new place there filling in all details, this is a screenshot with the procedure done from a computer, similar applies to a mobile device:

More than welcome @ABIshek1

@AnjuDesai the answer from @LuigiZ is correct providing the cobbler always runs the business form the same location because then it is like any other business. If the cobbler travels from place to place then the business cannot be added.

I will mark his answer as the solution.

Hi Luigi. Thanks for your quick response.

Well sitting on the roadside is not legal. But they are doing it since 15years …same place. And well recognised for their trade. Nobody has ever complained about them.

Funny thing is that the spot where he sits, nobody sits there. Its like an unwritten contract and no one occupies that area.

I am going to write about him … cobblers don’t make that much money and they cannot afford to pay rent for a legal shop. But they are an integral part of our society and we honestly need them around. They mind their own business and do deserve recognition.
