With the valiant efforts of few industrialists and businessmen,and the hardwork of care-takers and volunteers, Calcutta Pinjrapole Society in Sodepur, West Bengal, India is one of the largest cattle sheds in India and is also the home to 1600 cows.
I was here for a voluntary work, wherein I decided to spend the morning amongst these cows, feeding them and seeing the way they are taken care of.
People from all over the area or nearby residential areas donate food items, like cabbage, sugarcane, grass, spinach and many other veggies. They are collected in a mini-van and transported here. We arranged for a whole mini-van and arrived at this place, which is about 30 mins away from Kolkata.
The place is spread across a huge area, walking and meandering through 5 major sheds. In total, there were 1600 cows. The cows that needed medical attention were kept in a separate area, just like an Intensive Care Unit. They were constantly monitored.
