Cabo de Rama a Hill Fort, South Goa

Cabo de Rama a famous hill fort built on a Cliff facing to the Arabian Sea. It’s situated in South Goa almost Northernmost part of the Canacona in Khola village which is also known as Cola village. It’s a protected monument.

This Fort was controlled by Sonda Rajas as they remain feudator of Bijapur Sultanate and after their decline they remain feudator of Vijaynagar Empire and they remain feudator of Marathas also. In the 1760 AD Sonda King Immadi Sadashiva Rajendra Wodiyar handed over the fort to the Portuguese in lieu of protection from the Mysore King Hyder Ali.

Because of its strategic location Portuguese built a moat on the three sides, they added bastions and strengthen the fortress wall. They deployed twenty one cannons to counter any enemy attack either from the Sea or from the land. They built a Chapel which is still active. A commander quarter and barracks for the soldiers. It offers the panoramic views of the Arabian Sea which are breathtaking.

Visitors can see the ramparts of the moat, fortress wall, bastions, cannons and the Chapel. A good road is built to access the Fort from Colva. Tourists may enjoy the serenity of the Cola beach with Sea Bath. Very nominal entry fee is charged and open from 07:00 hours to 18:00 hours.
