It’s a good while since I last wrote a decent foodie post,so this one is long overdue. It’s not a very delicious sumptuous or yummy dish but a very simple fruit I found. It’s new to me, very new but quite interesting. I haven’t found in Nigeria, nor in Ghana, but anyway it exists here in Liberia.
Funfacts about the Bush apples
- From all indications it’s a tropical fruit, therefore I will not be surprised if it exists in Indian,Bangladesh, Sri-Lanka or somewhere in South America.
- It breaks open into 2 nice pods if cracked correctly.
- It makes a nice pop sound that I like when it’s cracked open.
- It’s not cultivated but grows wild in the forest.
- It’s not a tree,it’s of the family of the vine botanically speaking. It creeps on other plants
- It’s commonly found during the dry season, when the rains are all over
- The locals in the area of Liberia I discovered it call it “Bush apples” or Paeh in the local Bassa dialect
Taste
- The interior of it is gueey and brown/white
- It has seeds that can be licked or chewed
- It has a very shape sour taste but can be sugar sweet when it’s over ripe.
- It has some white substance at the edge of the pod that can be used as a glue.
- The size can be bigger than what’s in the photo above
These are my perosnal original discovery from investigations from the Locals in the village where I found it. Please feel free to let us know more about it, if you’ve ever come across it in your own locality. Thank you in advance.
Cheers
