Good Evening to all Google/Connect Moderators and all my fellow local guides
Today i am going to introduce the iconic landmark of Dehradun i.e Buddah temple.
It’s Tibetan religious spot located in Mohabewala, Clement Town, Dehradun. It’s few kilometres away from ISBT Dehradun also known as Buddha Monestry or Buddha Garden.
After the succesful completion of our meet up on 19th May 2019 at FRI Dehradun, i decided to visit Buddha temple with 2 attendees of meet up @VickyKrish & @Bal however i had many times at the temple but it was my first visit with Vicky and Baljinder and i am sharing my experience first time on Connect.
The construction Buddha temple started around 1965 when it was built as a prototype of the original temple Monastery located in Tibet.
It’s believed that the temple had been designed and painted by around 50 artists who took 3 years to create such estonishing landmark with different colours in Dehradun city.
It was built as one of the four Tibetan religion schools and was named Nyingma other three schools are called Sakya, Kagyu & Geluk which have great importance in the Tibetan religion.
There are various shops, food stalls and book shops nearby temple but mostly all books are in Tibetan language.
Note:The interior of the temple is only open for the public on Sunday, so by the help of stairs you can go through inside the main temple but no photography is allowed inside it so be aware.
If you want to travel by Bus then ISBT Dehradun is the nearby bus stand for bus and it’s around 5 km from Buddha temple and this short journey you can cover by sharing auto, costing around 10 Rs/head.
If you want to travel by train then Dehradun Railway Station is the nearby railway spot, it’s around 10 km from Buddha temple and the remaining journey you can cover by public transport or sharing auto, the ticket of transit is around 20 Rs/head.
If you want to travel by air then Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun is the nearby airport, the temple is around 34 km from airport, this journey you can cover by taxi. Ola/uber service also available here.
I want to tag here some of the moderators & fellow local guides so that they can also share the experience of any Buddha temple nearby them.
@IshantHP_ig Thanks for mentioning me and it was a great time spending time with you all. Also thanks for taking myself and @Bal to this lovely place. Hope to explore more places in Dehradun with you sometime soon in upcoming meetup.
Also good luck for tomorrow’s meetup . If time permits I would try to join with the chennai community virtually. As we also have our meetup scheduled by evening 4-6pm
Thanks @sonnyNg for noticing and mentioning us both in your comment. And yes those prayer wheels are Tibetan style of worship . Maybe you can find them in all Tibetan worship places I guess . But before I thought it is common in all buddha temples but came to know from one my Thai friend that it’s unique in Tibetan worship.
