Nail of Brahma’s footwear, Brahmavarti Ghat, Bithoor, Uttar Pradesh, India.
Brahmavart Ghat is a Hindu pilgrimage site situated on the banks of the holy river Ganges. Bithoor tour gave me an opportunity to visit this ghat of mythological importance and the experience was very pleasant.
In October 22 all the ghats were submerged due to flood, covered with mud and sand. This pilgrimage place is known by many names like Utpalaranya, Brahmasmatipuri, Brahmavarta, Brahma ki Pauri and Bithoor. The priest present there was busy in removing water and sand, yet they allow me to have a sight of the Brahma ji’s footwear nail also he gave me a brief introduction about this ghat. Which is as follows:
According to the Brahmavayvarta Purana, it has been said in ‘Brahmavarta Sama Kshetram Nasti Mamandle Kvachit Baha Samhita’ that means there is no other region equal to Brahmavarta. This is the focal or central point of the earth. As per the order of Shri Hari Lord Vishnu, Brahma ji sat here and performed Yajna for the origin of human being. For the purpose of identification, Lord Brahma established a nail of Khadaun (wooden sole footwear) here, which is known as Brahma Khunti.
The banks of the river Ganga are famous for their picturesque views and serene atmosphere, which are often thronged by devotees for bath and worship. The idol of Lord Brahma is worshiped in Pushkar near Jaipur in Rajasthan and here peg or nail of his footwear is worshipped.
