So every year we see a dimmed theme of many pandals in Kolkata, and it’s not by choice; it’s showing the current scenario and the future of the state. This Purbachal Club pandal where I visited was not dimmed, but they have come up with a unique idea this time.
As we know that West Bengal has the highest rate of child marriage in India, prostitution is at its peak, and on top of that, unemployment, education drop, decreasing law & order condition, and issues like the top 10 dirtiest cities in India being in West Bengal are making the situation even worse.
I lived in every corner of India, but in 2019 when I came to Kolkata, I was literally shocked to see that parents are not allowing their children (girls and even boys sometimes) to go alone outside; they even accompany their girls to school, tuition, and other places no matter whether their children are 14, 18, 20, or even 25.
In today’s world the community where there’s less or no women’s participation is considered a backward community. This pandal has demonstrated it so well. At its entrance top we can see a girl in a cage, and on both sides there are many birds ready to fry but in cages.
Inside the pandal there is a blue environment, where it’s shown that the birds are trying to fly but are unable to move from their places. The idol of Goddess Durga is shown as a magical fairy with two big wings, showing the true symbol of women’s power.
