Boots on the Ground: Navigating Bolivia’s National Crisis (673k Views)

Subject: URGENT: US Citizen / Android Dev / Top 10% Local Guide in Bolivian Crisis (673k Views)

To the Google Team,

My name is Brian “Boots on the ground” Hatfield. I am a lifelong US citizen, a retired 30-year first responder (Police/Paramedic/Fire), and an Android Developer (4.0 GPA in AI Software Engineering).

I am currently reporting from the front lines of the national crisis in Bolivia. I have just completed a high-risk journey from Santa Cruz to La Paz, through Coroico, the Caranavi blockades, and into Rurrenabaque. To navigate the extreme costs of these indefinite blockades, I had to liquidate my primary Apple ecosystem (iPhone 17 Pro Max and Watch). I am now operating on a baseline device and am at risk of losing the ability to provide critical updates for the 673,000 viewers who depend on my data.

The Momentum:

• Growth: 65% in three weeks.

• Velocity: 13,000 new views in the last 15 hours.

• Impact: I am the only active source providing live transit data—including photos of fallen trees, unlit passes, and washed-out roads—for the Yungas corridor.

The Proposal:

I am requesting hardware sponsorship to transition back to the Google Pixel flagship ecosystem. I want to showcase how Pixel hardware, Gemini AI, and Live Translate perform in high-stress, zero-infrastructure environments.

I have attached visual proof of the conditions I am documenting. Let’s show the world how Google tools empower a US first responder on the front lines.

Respectfully,

Brian “Boots on the ground” Hatfield

Dear @Brianthatfield

Welcome to our community. Please read our community guidelines, so that you can get headstart on Connect.

From the local guides program policy, “Some Local Guides may receive invitations to attend special events held by Google (‘Events’). At some Events, you may be permitted to bring a guest (as indicated by Google). Event invitations are limited to only Local Guides and (if applicable) their guest(s) who meet the legal drinking age in the Event city. You must share these terms with your guest prior to bringing your guest to an Event. Events, perks and early access rules are subject to change at any time and without advance notice.”

Please note that; perks, event invitations & early access are provided by Google for a local guide which can be changed any any time & without any advance notice.

Please correct me if I am wrong @MortenCopenhagen.

Hi @Brianthatfield

Thanks for all your efforts.

In my time here on Connect I have seen many pleas for hardware, premium services etc, but non of them have been granted. Keep in mind we are about 500 million volunteers.

All the best
