Boat race punnamada alappuzha

The Nehru Trophy Boat Race is a prestigious annual vallam kali (snake boat race) held on [Location ]()Punnamada Lake in Alappuzha, Kerala. It was first conducted in 1952 in honor of Jawaharlal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister, who was so impressed by the race that he donated a silver trophy. The event takes place on the second Saturday of August and attracts thousands of spectators. The highlight is the thrilling competition of chundan vallams (snake boats), rowed by hundreds of oarsmen in perfect rhythm. The race is a major cultural and sporting event, showcasing Kerala’s rich tradition and spirit of teamwork.
