In Feburary 2020 I took a trip to one of the most exciting cities, San Francisco. It wasn’t my first time there, and I felt like I should go back and do a few things that i didn’t have a chance to experience in 2015.
One of those things is bike through the Golden Gate Bridge all the way to Sausalito, a city which is located on the other side of the Gate, and on the end of the day, take a ferry back to Pier 39 in San Fran. It’s a whole day trip to do theses activities and I also had the chance to do a few things more, as you can see on the video that I am sharing here.
To help you with your trip planning, i’m putting down here my day schedule for this day with a few helpful tips that you can do the same and have a grateful time.
- Cable Car - Powel & Hyde St. - To go from Powel St. to Hyde St., you should board on Powell St & Market St. This route will give you the most amazing views of the city. You will be able to see Alcatraz Island from high hills of SF, and also will pass by Lombard St… Be careful, if you drop off before you get to Hyde St., and you’re riding with a single ride ticket, witch you can pay at cable car, you will have to pay it again to board back and end the trip on Hyde St.
- Hyde St. - Once you get to the final stop, walk a little more down on Hyde St. towards the bay. You will get to Jefferson St, where you will be able to walk to Pier 39. On your way to Pier 39, there will be a lot of gift shops and restaurants. It’s important to eat well before biking, so if you haven’t eaten it is a good place to do so.
- Blazing Saddles - It’s time to take your bike and start the trip. I recommend you booking your bike in advence, because it’s cheaper. Blazing Saddles is the one I choose to book mine. They will give you all the instructions on how to get to Sausalito and go back to San Francisco, and you also can buy in advence your ticket to The Blue & Gold Fleet, that’s the ferry you should take to be back to pier 39. Trust me it’s easier than you think.
- Palace of Fine Arts - On your way to the Gate, you will bike really close to the Palace of Fine Arts. You definitely should stop there. It’s a really beautiful and peaceful place.
- Spots to Stop - The whole bike trail gives you breath takes. But I recommend you to stop on these spots.
- Fort Point National - To get to this one you’ll have to pass the bottom of the hill, witch will continue the trail and bike all the way under the bridge.
-
- Battery East - You will face this one once you, after the fort point, go back to the trail and bike up hill. There you will have a full view of the Bridge. Take your best shot.
- Golden Gate Bridge - It’s high point of the day! Once you end the trail, you will cross the bridge. It is a very long biking, mostly because you will be stoping everytime to take pictures and contemplate the amazing view. Seriously, enjoy the view, you’ll love it to see San Francisco’s skyline and the beautiful bay.
- View Vista Point - It’s the stop on the other side of the bridge. You will be able to get back your breath take a little break before you head back to the trail. Be careful there is a part of this trail that you’ll be cycling on the side of the road, but you will be fine. There’s a limed speed for cars and also I hope you’re wearing a helmet all the way there hehe.
- Sausalito - Once you get to the city, you’ll be able to see sings for bikes, be aware to those, they will help you find your way to the pier where you can park you bike and enjoy the city. Have lunch, visit the little shops, have some beer, if you’re over 21 of course hehe. I also recommend right after parking your bike, check the ferry’s schedule, so you can plan how much time you will be spending in the city.
- Ferry - One thing, that probably the guys from the biking rentals have told you, is about the Ferry. There are two different ones, the Blue & Gold Fleet will take you back to the Pier 39, the other one, you drop you off at the Ferry Building. I recommend taking the one that will drop you off at Pier 39, because will be closer to return the bike. It’s time to go back to San Francisco, unlock your bike, board on the ferry, and enjoy the view. Believe me, they are just as amazing as on the Bridge.
That’s all!
Enjoy San Francisco
