Biking down la Ruta de la Muerte in La Paz, Bolivia

Known as the most dangerous road in the world, la Ruta de la Muerte in La Paz is clearly an exhilirating experience for adrenaline junkies like me.

The guide who took us there told me there were 50 people dying every year :scream: I couldnā€™t find any resources online to back it up - only a few microblogs - but Iā€™d trust himā€¦

It was my first time biking downhill for more than an hour and I can say that it was SCARY! :see_no_evil:

I guess the adrenaline helped me not thinking too much about it. Itā€™s gonna sound obvious but make sure you pay attention to the road, not the landscape and it should be fine.

One of the person in my group of 10 bikers fell twice during the way down. She was perfectly fine afterwards though - only a few bruises here and there but nothing serious. She told us she should have paid more attention when braking during turns and trusting her bike ā€œtoo muchā€.

Pro Tip: make sure your bike is in good condition. Some agencies will provide you terrible bikes as you can read on some Tripadvisor reviews. Try a few ones before youā€™re absolutely comfortable with your bike.

Long story short: itā€™s dangerous but if you focus and pay attention to the guidesā€™ instructions, youā€™ll have a blast.

If you are an adrenaline junky Iā€™m sure it could make for an amazing day, @_louste !

Great tips about double-checking your bike for safety and fit. As a cyclist, I know how important that can be. What makes a perfect after cycling meal around the area?
