Big Gay Out is the biggest rainbow event in New Zealand. It’s the LGBTQ festival running since 2000 and is usually organised by the New Zealand AIDS Foundation at Coyle Park in Point Chevalier. Mr Gay New Zealand World is also chosen here.
It returned in 2023 after 2022’s cancellation due to COVID-19.
This year, the Big Gay Out is part of Pride Month’s celebration of diversity in New Zealand. Other activity includes a Big Gay parade. It’s basically a party of music, dance, food, drink and performance for whoever came to the event. The party-goers are not limited to the rainbow community.
The stallholders are mainly the partners for this event - these are big corporates and they showed their support for the rainbow community. There are also art and craft stalls selling small items. the most popular is the food stall. This is also a political arena for major parties. Local MPs and often government officials and even the Prime Minister would come for photo opportunities.
This is a classic Kiwi community event scene - no violent conflict, only full of love and harmony.

Looks like a great outing - Thanks for sharing!
Quick photography question: Was it an overcast day? Seems like s super colorful event with those rainbows galore.
I assume there will more more brightness in those photos.
…or maybe just me got too much used to AI lie of over saturation in modern mobiles instead of trusting a good old Canon work.

Hi @abermans Thank you for viewing:)
I used a preset called “Wedding Dreams”. It basically increases the vibration and also increases the contrast and dark/black.
I like the word you used Rainbow Galore!

Great colorful photos @OliverKIWI , thanks for sharing.
I was wondering whether you needed to ask for permission before taking specific photos of the participants/attendees at this event.

Thank you for viewing @AdamGT
I have been told it’s lawful to do so in public. I am a Getty Image contributor so I know this kind of well.
Because this is in public, I have the right to take of photo of someone, and by default, they have the same right of taking a photo of me.

@Tandrima2 Thank you, although this is kind of well-known in New Zealand, it’s still small compared to Sydney Mardi Gras.

Yes, we can see you in the reflection of the sunglass.
The Big Gay Out is a grand ‘Rainbows Gallore’ as rightly mentioned by LG @abermans .
Thank you very much for sharing.
PS:
Dear @AdamGT , here too public functions are free to be shot; however, ticket shows, you have to take the permission of the event managers.

My dear friend @TravellerG
Sorry, I didn’t tag anyone at all.
I really enjoyed the day. You know I am always interested in human beings. Humans have always fascinated me in many ways: appearance, expression, demeanour*, characters, behaviour etc.*
