There are certain items in Google Maps that you cannot edit and these include landmarks, established points-of-interests or even the names of a city/township. Only Google can edit these although you can always send feedback and suggest your changes through Google maps and it includes the Local and Global Language that you mentioned.
To send feedback you can follow these steps below:
- Find the location in question on the map;
- Click the hamburger icon â°;
- Click Send feedback;
- Choose your relevant feedback.

Hello @SNirvana , if the place is a POI that local guides can adapt (shops, etc) then you can add the local name by changing your interface language. On the desktop version you can do that within Google maps (also via the hamburger menu), on mobile devices by changing the device settings.
Then you will get a field for entering the name in that language if you use âSuggest an editâ

i am looking to add 2nd language in places, area, towns
some times google map shows 2nd column to add 2nd language but not always
is it because i am using iPhone or need something else what i am missing

- ita not about google map language
- its about adding 2nd language
- like in Pakistan google map is in English but local language is Urdu
- i want to add urdu with english
- so peopleâs using maps can read easily because everyone canât read English hope this will make clear my question

Hello everyone!
Can you help me to enable my setting to add both name, English & local language while adding a missing place?
I search everywhere but could not find the option.
I think i had used this feature before but now it disappeared as its more helpful to the local people who do not understand English.

@Trkatel Thank you for your question. To get a name filed of a language, we will have to set the Maps to that language.
On the computer, you can change your language following the steps mentioned under âSee Google Maps in another languageâ section.
On mobile, from the setting option change your phoneâs language to the language you want to have a field for.
For example, if you want to provide a name in Nepali, change the language to Nepali and you should have the option.
Let me know if that works.

There is an effortless way to achieve that.
I use Google input tools, wherein I can toggle between the Indic as well as an English keyboard by clicking on the " ळ " or the âabcâ symbol on the top of the keyboard, when I jump from one field to other.
So that solves the problem of editing on the phone.
However, the input tools for Windows have vanished from the website.
Opportunely I had downloaded that long back and thus continues to remain accessible for me on PC also.

@C_T This is not about the input tool/keyboard. Itâs about getting a second language field when editing.

While creating a new point of interest, the form displays a single field for the entry of the name. I do not recollect the screen ever having two placeholders at any time; one for English and the second for the local language.
Thus, there is no choice currently but to create the POI in English (or in the local language) and then suggest an edit later on. -
In case of an existing POI on the Map, where the field itself is not there for the second language; one can report that through the âsend feedbackâ option, attaching the screenshot & hoping to get an update of that place.
Alternatively, one can append the original entry in English with the local language translation in one single field.
Thatâs possible as the field supports a multilingual entry.
I did come across many such places which have the name entered in two different languages in one single field.
Since the intention is to help the local population, thatâs a rightful edit unquestionably.

Instead of send feedback we xan achieve the second/third name fileds just changing the language.
And adding multiple name translations in a single field is not a good practice.

Its available only when editing ?.. we cannot input both name (nepali & english) while adding a place even after changing language.

Thanks a lot for that useful tip.
Till date, I never changed my default language & thus wasnât aware of that feature.
(At the same time, I also find that once done, that opens up a third blank field to add the translation in the local language even if that exists already!)
