The Belgian beers are really terrific. And, taking into account my age, I have tried a lot. OK, I am Belgian… and I might be preoccupied a bit. But it is a fact ! Nobody really knows exactly how many beers are brewed in Belgium, but its must be somewhere around 1500 (or more). Not only the number of beers is tremendous… also the diversity is enourmous: Abbey beers, ales, brown beers, pilseners, fruit beers, winter beers, summer beers, spiced beers, … The list is too long to write down here. Also the quality of the beers must be mentioned. Every year, a number of Belgian beers are chosen as ‘best beer in the World’. For example, the Westmalle Trappist beer (light & dark) -my favorite-, the Westvleteren XII beer or the Duvel Triple hop. Outstanding !! You really should taste them. When you ones have the opportunity to visit Belgium, you should really visit a Belgian beer pub and taste some of our treasures. Every city has its favorites… mine is De Spytighen Duvel in Turnhout or Staminee De Crawaett in Lille.
