I just recently moved back to this great city (Tel Aviv), and when I first got a notification stating I can share pictures I took at various restaurants etc. I was really happy.
Like a typical millennial, I love sharing on social media, love getting likes, love getting comments, love sharing information and having easy access to information as well, this is exactly it, the whole experience captures the essence of our generation, of how we use the internet probably the most.
today everyone can share their personal subjective experience as well as “dry information” (which is relatively objective like opening hours, menu items etc.) which makes it easier for new comers to find themselves in a new place as well as locals when looking to experience something new.
This also helps local businesses get the exposure they need based on customer experience, it’s the new technological mouth to ear experience.
I mostly share information related to food, when I just moved here I had no idea where to go myself and after establishing a few favourite places near where I live it felt good being able to spear the word.
Not everyone is a professional photographer, but taking pictures is something everyone does with the evolvement of smartphones etc.
I remember when I just started using the internet as a kid, about 20 years ago, we hardly had any pictures we took ourselves on our computer.
My sister and I talked with other kids from all over the world on mIRC and icq, we would often try to describe what Israel is like to them (you couldn’t just Google pictures back then), luckily the internet has changed a lot since then, today a bunch of random people know exactly what type of coffee foam art I had on my coffee this morning, how fun!
I will be moving to Berlin soon (in May) and can’t wait to expand my local guide and tips in a completely different place and also can’t wait to find all the information I need from other guides, this is exactly what this community if for.
