A steel structure in Bhola, Bangladesh, which rivals the height of a 21-storey building, aims to draw attention to the island district. This magnificent watchtower is located on the largest island in Bangladesh, within the Bhola District. It is just 6 kilometers from my village home and 70 kilometers from the main area of Bhola District.
The island is relatively isolated, and the primary means of communication with the capital city, Dhaka, is by ferry or ship. To promote it as an attractive tourist destination and enhance Char Fasson’s Upazila (Bengali: চর ফ্যাশন) visibility, a former local member of parliament took the initiative to build this beautiful tower.
Many fast-food outlets surround this iconic Watchtower. Since it’s close to my home, I often visit there to hang out with friends or relatives.
Since this is an isolated island, we travel from the Sadarghat Launch Terminal, Dhaka, to our home by ship. Upon arrival, we disembark at the Betua Launch Terminal, Char Fasson, which is situated in a pleasant environment. In the late afternoon, a large number of visitors come here to enjoy their time and relax.
