Havana is a wonderful old city with so much beautiful art, architecture, and music to enjoy!
I would like to share some of my favourite moments with you: every photo is taken at a site that you can enjoy for free.
You can see amazing classic cars throughout Havana, but the Paseo de Marti, in front of El Capitolio, provides a colourful backdrop for your photos.
This lovely seaside “boardwalk” exists throughout old Havana and is a common hangout for locals in the evening. In the background, you can see the fortress, Castillo de Los Tres Reyes del Morro, on the other side of the harbour. This view is from the patio of the fabulous Soviet-themed restaurant, Nazdarovie.
This beautiful, life-size mural is handmade with immaculate detail and life-like portraits.
Mojitos are commonly served throughout Havana. La Bodeguita serves them by the dozens, and is famous for being a hangout for the classic writer, Ernest Hemingway. This bar is often packed with tourists.
Havana is a fascinating combination and contrast of old world and new world. On any street in Old Havana, you’re likely to see a mix of cars from the 1960’s, modern cars, horse-drawn carriages and incredible old buildings like El Capitolio in the background.
Plazas are commonly filled with symbols of Cuban pride, including memorials to historical figures like Che Guevarara and Camilo Cienfuegos.
Beautiful classic cars are common throughout Havana. They are available to hire, with the drivers providing a tour of famous sites in Havana. These tend to be expensive and cheaper taxis are also available for simple travel.
The Plaza de la Revolucion is a simple, large space but nearby buildings have massive memorials to Cuban historic figures.
This artists’ market sells stunning, original artwork at affordable prices: these items are unique and make great souvenirs. It’s within walking distance from old Havana and easily accessible by the bus system.
This amazing, white-sand beach, is only a short drive away from Havana and accessible by private bus or taxi. It offers few amenities, but is beautiful and relatively quiet. Although Cuba is famous for its beaches, most tend to be hours away from Havana and packed with tourists. Try this beach if you’re staying near Havana and not one of the resort areas of Cuba.
