Banff, Alberta, Canada has an intriguing downtown, with a survey plan dating back to 1885. Many downtown streets have ‘animal’ names—Caribou Street, Wolf Street, Buffalo Street, Otter Street (yes, there is intersection of Moose Street and Squirrel Street for Rocky & Bullwinkle fans … and perhaps the coolest street of all, beautiful Bear Street.
Bear Street is home to an impressive range of restaurants boasting Canadian and Rocky Mountain cuisine. It’s home to our local walking-tour company, Banff Walk. It’s home to great cafés, shops and other local surprises.
This street offers visitors on-street dining, seating, thoughtful landscaping and many other pleasures. The streetscape of Bear Street will be transformed in 2020 to offer pedestrians an even more welcoming environment, to slow traffic and to enhance walkability. We love it!
Some photos here of how Bear Street looks now. Our walking-tour company and other Bear Street businesses will be open during 2020 construction, as the street is transformed.
