Beating the Heat at Gujar Mastani - Tradition of a Century

Gujar Mastani Cold Drink House made news locally on the occasion of their 100th Anniversary.

So last week, I decided to visit here and check out their century-old tradition.

They have maintained the old-world charm of the place, and in doing so, they did not realise their furniture needed an upgrade, and also some paint work immediately.

The parlor was a tiny shop in the narrow bylanes of old Pune.

They serve a wide variety of ice creams, faludas, milk shakes, and above all Mastani - a mixture of soft curd and ice cream with toppings.

Their specialty is the syrup toppings along with dry fruits and nuts.

:ice_cream: My Impression

Not going here again. :sad_but_relieved_face:
I ordered my favorite Anjeer Figs flavor and ice cream, and contrary to the promise, it did not have any real fruits - just flavor.

The ice cream was smelly :face_with_steam_from_nose: and probably crossed its expiry date.

The place was not only congested, but only one person was operating when I was there. He took orders, prepared and served ice cream, and also collected the payment.

Despite a century-long tradition of a century, this Mastani house did not live up to my expectations.

Yes, and I suspect the original business owners who built the reputation are no longer there.

Hence, the deterioration in quality and service. So after 100 year,s this business just survives and exists.

Recommendations on where to go are always helpful, but I feel it’s equally important to know where not to go especially when expectations don’t match reality.
This helps others make better choices. Thanks for sharing @TusharSuradkar

@SaylliWalve1 - agree with you.

An unknown place giving surprises is understandable, but a business with 100+ years of reputation and making news locally, not living up to expectations is not :smiley:

@TusharSuradkar sir this post really made my day. I learned that a story need not always be positive; it can also describe a bad experience, be constructive, and offer suggestions. Thanks for the support! #BeatTheHeat
