Beat the Heat with Aam Panna Drink

The perfect way to beat the heat wave is to splurge on some raw mangoes! Yes, As we still await our favourite juicy alphonsos, the market surely has enough raw mangoes that can be used in many ways to overcome the excess heat. Here presenting the traditional Aam Panna Drink.

Aam panna Drink P.C :- @Anshu

The general belief is that only ripened mangoes are nutritious and palatable and unripe fruits are commonly used for making pickles and sauces. The fact, however, is that unripe mangoes are the best source of vitamin C. Here is the procedure to make aam Panna at home, we need only Raw mangoes, cumin powder and Rock salt as ingredients.

Take some Raw mangoes and boil/crop on fire. After that extract pulp and add some water according to quantity of pulp. Add some roasted cumin powder, rock salt and serve.

How raw mango helps in taming the heat waves scientific reasons :-

  • Eating a fresh green mango baked in hot ash daily once or twice is a sure preventive remedy for sun-stroke (as these days are very hot)
  • Eating raw mango with salt quenches thirst and prevents loss of sodium chloride and iron during summer due to excessive sweating. It tones up the body and helps one to tolerate the excessive heat.
  • Peeled fruit is applied on the eye to cure burning hot sensation due to sun UV rays.

Health precautions :-

However, eating unripe mango in excess causes throat irritation, indigestion, dysentery and abdominal colic.

Therefore, not more than one mango should be consumed daily and cold water should never be consumed immediately after eating the green fruit, because it coagulates the sap and makes it more irritant.

There are many ways to enjoy the raw mangoes, some like with salt & pepper while others like it plain. Let us know how do you like them!

This recipe sounds very tasty @Anshu3 ,

Thank you for sharing it with the community. What happens if the mangoes are already ripe? What is the difference between boiling and roasting the mangoes?

Thanks @VasT for the compliment.

Mangoes are basically a combination of sugars and acids. When a fruit is not ripe, it has a high acid but low sugar concentration. So, it is obvious that the acidity in the unripen fruit gives a sour taste. In contrast, our taste buds are flooded with the sweetness of the fruit if the fruit is fully ripe. This is because the fruit now has high sugar but low acid concentration. And that’s why we get so many benefits in unripe mango (like rich in vitamin C ) over ripe mango.

There is a huge difference in taste between roasted and boiled mangoes nothing other than this.but I will suggest to go for roasted one for great taste.

Thank you again.
