Beat the Heat Challenge & Know about Recyclable ♻️ Plastics at Businesses

Hy Local Guides, :beverage_box::recycling_symbol:

As part of @MathanVibranarayan’s Beat the Heat Challenge, I discovered this Juice Shop on Google Maps and visited to have a fresh juice.

The Juice Barrel, situated in Kowdiar is mostly known for their juice and their ingredients. Even though they have regular fresh juices, they also serve fresh juices mixed with other fruit ingredients like lemon, pineapple, etc.. They also serves their unique smoothies which are yoghurt based. They also have their own recycled :recycling_symbol: plastic cups with paper straws for takeaways which customers can take home and reuse.

I just had this Pine Orange - which consists of lemon, orange and pineapple.

Know About Recyclable :recycling_symbol: Plastics at your Local Businesses.

Plastic cup used at The Juice Barrel for the Takeaways.

Please note the :recycling_symbol: symbol, number inside it (5) and Abbreviation [PP] below the :recycling_symbol: symbol.

Theoretically, all plastics are Recyclable but practically some are not due to variable issues such as type of plastic, cost of recycling, contamination in the plastic, etc..

I will not go too much about plastics and will focus on Abbreviations and symbols seen in the above photo.

Numbers seen inside :recycling_symbol: symbol and it’s Abbreviation.

  • :one: - PET/PETE (Polyethylene Terephthalate) : mostly seen in Plastic bottles. Highly and mostly Recycled plastic worldwide.
  • :two: - HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) : mostly used in product bottles such as cleaning, cosmetics, milk containers etc.. Also mostly used as recyclable plastic, along with PET.
  • :three: - PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) : mostly used as food containers and in pipes. Not that much widely used as recyclable plastic compared to PET and HDPE.
  • :four: - LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) : mostly used in plastic bags, packaging bags, etc.. While accepted to some Recyclable plants and programs, but not much used as PET and HDPE.
  • :five: - PP (Polypropylene) : This is the plastic you see in the above photo with number 5 and Abbreviation as PP. Mostly used as food containers and lids. Even though not accepted, compared to PET or HDPE, but mainly recycled for making Recycled benches in parks, automobile parts, kitchen utensils, etc..
  • :six: - PS (Polystyrene) : mostly found in food containers, disposable cups and packaging. Recycled PS is used mainly in Casings for electronics, food service items such as egg cartons, etc..
  • :seven: - Other : this group contains various types of plastic, hence the name “other”. Even though some plastics in this category are not used in recycling, some like Acrylic and polycarbonate can be Reused and Recycled.

Next time you are in middle of shopping or having a drink, check the number and see how far it is to recycle.

Note : Don’t throw away plastic. Take them home, make use of it like containers, art works and planting pots.

Had I not known, I would have looked at it as normal plastic.
