Beans & Dreams: A Journey through Coffee Brewing and Tasting

Imagine stepping into a cozy local cafe, where the rich aroma of freshly ground coffee beans fills the air.

I experienced this last month at the Third Wave Coffee on FC Road in Pune.

It was meeting with friends after a long time, and we decided to gather here.

Unexpectedly a coffee brewing and tasting experience unfolded as the cafe manager Varun invited us to become connoisseurs.

Connoisseurs means an expert judge in matters of taste, and none of us were anywhere close.
But Varun was kind enough to guide us on the parameters to judge and assign a grade to the coffee.

We delved into the world of premium Indian Estate Coffees, exploring the subtleties of single-origin beans.

Varun explained to us various coffees that are popular in Brazil, Vietnam, and India.

Here’s the adjoining book shop nicely complementing the Cafe.

Varun explained to us the various brewing techniques, from the precise pour-over to the robust French press, each method unveiling distinct flavors and aromas.

He talked to us in a layman’s language which I greatly appreciate.

We first rubbed the coffee powder on the palms and smelled it.

Then he asked us to sip the coffee and taste it on the various buds in the front, back middle, and sides of the tongue.

We were surprised by this experience.

I realized that it was not just about sipping coffee.
It is an immersive journey at Third Wave Cafe in Pune starting from the bean at the estate to our cup.

We also enjoyed listening to the history, culture, and craft that culminates in the perfect brew.

here are some interesting features inside the cafe, seating arrangement, and a rack of coffee products on sale.

Here is the front desk that also showcases the bakery items and menu on large screen displays in the background.

I will go to the third Wave Coffee again and also take my friends along to experience the dream journey through Coffee Brewing and Tasting

Perfectly said @Ru_pali4

Tea tasting was known to me previously, but coffee is new

@TusharSuradkar When I was in Pune Karve Nagar a few months ago, I used to pass past this third-wave coffee shop but never went in, and I felt I had missed out. You have eloquently described everything and the processes of brewing, and I would want to visit once. The next book shop looks quite distinctive.photos and ambience look cool

I would think twice about the coffee before trying again, and the service left much to be desired.

The experience was the impressive part @Praniketmore

The book shop is Crossword but leaves people with the impression that it is part of the cafe

Amazing Coffee’ish post @TusharSuradkar Sir, a break from the Starbucks coffee. Third wave outlets are scattered across metro cities. It is there in posh areas of Gurugram as well. I have never tried third wave coffee as I could not break bond with Starbucks, Omg! I would surely give their coffee a try! Thank you for this wonderful share and coffee brewing process! Always thankful and Best of Regards Sir!

Hi @Rohan10

I too was surprised when they said they had 10-12 outlets in Pune alone.

Their coffee quality was below average on that day, and the service staff needs a lot of training.

I’d say stick to your favorite cafe  as I went there on an invitation.

Yes, I too was surprised when they said they had 10-12 outlets in Pune alone.

In Delhi, there must be many more.

Their coffee quality was far below average, and the service needs much improvement.

I’d say stick to your favorite cafe  @AnubhaBangia

I went there on an invitation and the brewing experience was the good part of the visit.

Really enjoyed reading about your experience at Third Wave, @TusharSuradkar - I’ve never participated in a coffee tasting (I’ve done other food tastings), but as a (somewhat) aspiring connoisseur of brew, I’ve been growing my collection of coffee items and I feel like an experience like this would teach me a lot!

I truly appreciate your honesty @TusharSuradkar Sir towards their service and quality! Yes, they have outlets in the most posh areas of Gurugram. I visited one of them, looked at their menu and hygienic level, and in fraction of seconds made decision that my Starbucks is calling me! , Omg. And, went straight to my favorite coffee, as I entered, I felt the cleanliness and hospitality of Starbucks staff, unmatched aura!

Having said that, thank you for sharing your experience with all of us! I am sure you must have had great time!

Always thankful and Best of Regards Sir!

@TusharSuradkar ,

How lucky to have an immersive experience like that. Sorry to hear that the Coffee did not live up to your expectations. If “third wave” refers to the newest trend in coffee making, that may be the reason for feeling disappointed. It’s values are quite different from how Starbucks and others look at making coffee. My son was a Barista for several years and he has strong opinions on this.

Still a treat to learn something new
