Bay Area Hiking Series: Crystal Spring Reservoir

CRYSTAL SPRING RESERVOIR.gifCover photo with Animation

I will introduce San Francisco Bay area Hiking Trails, through these series of posts. This is third post of this series.

All pictures in this post are shot with Pixel 3.

Crystal spring Reservoir is also located in San Mateo, CA. There are several trails near this reservoir. Some trails run very close to the reservoir. We visited this place very close to the sunrise. We were able to see some colors in the sky and also reflection in the water. There is a smaller parking lot right on Skyline Blvd at the south entrance of sawyer camp recreation trail.

The trail we took is paved and a multipurpose trail, meant for cycling as well as walking. Round trip is around 3 miles to the parking lot. It is always fun to walk right next to huge body of water. During weekends Canada road which is further south, which is right next to the reservoir is only open to cyclists and closed for automobiles.

Here is the map of the area and trail.

Here are few pictures from the hike!

A small parking lot at the trail head, which is right on Hwy 35. In fact this was missing from the map, I ended up adding to the map.

Information board about regional Water systems, near the trail head.

View of the reservoir from Trial Head.

Pedestrian and cyclist bridge at the trail head, right next to the parking lot.

Colorful clouds and reflection in the reservoir during Sunrise

Another view of reservoir at sunrise

Paved multi purpose trail for cyclists, walkers an joggers

Interesting plant on the trail. Need to look up what this is?

Even though it is a short trail around 2.5 mile round trip. There is a well maintained restroom.

Another shot of the trail!

Covid related instructions to keep social distancing on the trail

Heading back to the parking lot!

Have you walked the hills above Berkeley yet? There’s plenty of trails up there and plenty of places to walk to and if you hate the really steep hills AC Transit buses can get you up and you walk back down :).

Hi @jayasimha78 ,

I never knew Bay Area has so many stunning hiking places waiting to be discovered! You are quite lucky to have been to so many beautiful places. I am looking forward to seeing what else is also hidden in the area and which you are going to introduce to everyone here on Connect. :sunrise_over_mountains:

As a tip, I wanted to kindly remind you whenever sharing a photo here on Connect a best practice is to always add captions to your photos so everyone could better understand your photos.
