I have a weird habbit of ensuring that my friends must visit places loved by me. One such spot is Bargain Book Hut in SGS Mall , Seawoods. I go there to get updates about new launches, new authors , ideas of coverpage and fresh smell of freshly printed books. But I never or rarely buy.
So here are the photos…
Readers often develop “book personalities.” People tend to identify strongly with certain genres—mystery lovers may seek suspense and discovery, while romance readers may look for emotional connection.
Reading can change the brain temporarily. Studies using brain imaging have found that reading narratives can activate networks involved in language, imagery and understanding other people’s perspectives.
Fiction can build empathy. Getting immersed in a character’s experiences can encourage readers to think about situations from perspectives different from their own.
Book lovers often reread books. Rereading isn’t necessarily because they’ve forgotten the story—familiar books can provide comfort, nostalgia and emotional reassurance.
Many readers have a preferred reading time. Some prefer mornings when the mind is fresh, while others associate reading with bedtime and relaxation.
The smell of old books is actually chemistry! The characteristic “old book smell” comes from volatile compounds released as paper, ink and binding materials slowly break down.
Marginalia can make books historical objects. Notes, underlining, signatures and dates left by previous readers can reveal how people interacted with a book decades ago.
Reading habits vary enormously across countries and cultures. Some societies have strong traditions of public libraries, while others rely heavily on bookshops, street vendors or second-hand markets.
Digital readers haven’t eliminated physical books. E-books and audiobooks have expanded reading rather than simply replacing printed books; many people use multiple formats depending on where they are.
Second-hand readers create a circular book economy. A single book can pass through several owners, allowing its cost and environmental footprint to be spread across multiple reading experiences.
