The Jumma Masjid, or Sangeen Jamia, is Bangalore’s oldest, dating back to 1790. Showcasing compelling Indo-Islamic architecture, the mosque features an impressive facade and a striking profile. Tall, ornate granite pillars support the main prayer hall, hinting at the enduring skill of the artisans, some of whom were brought in from Mysore during the original construction.
The brick-and-mortar structure is beautifully crowned by elegant spherical domes and is often flanked by magnificent twin minarets. These towering structures, traditionally ornamented with rows of decorative pigeonholes, are often beautifully illuminated during festive seasons, adding to the mosque’s grandeur.
