Badges don't show under My Contributions on Desktop

My badges show on my mobile app (iOS) but not on desktop (web) (OS). Link to profile.

I did search for existing threads on this, and the closest I came was a read-only post. Forgive if this duplicates an existing post, and move accordingly.

Thank you.

Hello @MapWrangler

Till date, Badges haven’t been visible to anybody on the desktop.
One can refer to only the reviews and photos, along with the view count.

Further, a click on the profile icon displays detailed statistics, and that’s all.
The desktop version of Maps represents a separate system & we can’t expect the same functionality as the phone app.

Thank you for that information, C T,

A comment on your comment, although it’s not directed at you. It’s directed to Google, and in particular to Local Guides Connect who put in place the badge scheme.

“The desktop version of Maps represents a separate system & we can’t expect the same functionality as the phone app.”

I, for one, can and do expect the same functionality across all platforms and devices - albeit there are many features and functions which are available on one version of the phone app and not the other, as well as desktop.

I do expect Google to make it known in their help pop-ups and other documentation that viewing badges is not (currently) available on desktop. There are millions of Local Guides around the world who read that badges are available under “My Contributions” without making any distinction to platform or device. It is a disservice to each of them to not provide accurate information, as well as a user-unfriendly experience – that is so easily remedied.

Hello @MapWrangler

Thanks for the clarification.

Since you raised a query in How-tos. I answered that.

If you wish to have features of phone app on a desktop, you need to place a post in the idea exchange section. I

I had come across a similar idea by some one else.

PS. There is a way to view the badges even on a desktop. However, since you expect to have a standard solution through Google Maps team, I do not want to explain that.

Hello CT,

“PS. There is a way to view the badges even on a desktop. However, since you expect to have a standard solution through Google Maps team, I do not want to explain that.”

For the benefit of tens of thousands+ of Local Guides, please do share the method of viewing badges on a desktop.

Thank you.

@C_T I do agree with @MapWrangler . You no need to be worry about anything, if you can help everyone. As you are posting in help section then feel free to share anything you have in your mind.

#C_T It seems you are talking about this closed thread.

Hello @MapWrangler

Very nice question indeed. Honestly, I have never seen any badges on desktop version except the points summary, at least last 4 years; so i think it’s only visible to App version and there is no such hide option to see on desktop version maps.

Hello @MapWrangler ,

After reading through the discussion here I just want to let you know that you’re right, badges are currently only visible on the app version of Google Maps.

Like I see has been mentioned already, Idea Exchange is the right place for suggesting such a change however, there’s already been an idea posted about this and you can find it here. Feel free to vote for it.

Have in mind that even though the idea has been closed, we’re still keeping an eye on it in case it’s something the team would like to have a second look at.

Hello C T,

I meant to include in my last reply a question about:

“However, since you expect to have a standard solution through Google Maps team, I do not want to explain that.”

I don’t understand how you understood my comments as my having an expectation of a “standard solution through the Google Maps Team.”

I have no preference on the channel by which badges are displayed on the desktop – only that they were added to the desktop version.

Thanks.

@MortenSI

Hello MortonSI,

Thanks for reaching out. I took your suggestion and added a vote for the (closed) suggestion, as well as adding a brief comment on why I feel it’s a good thing to implement.

Kind regards.

Hello @MapWrangler

I understood your question pretty well.
I too have a desire that the features of the android app be available on the desktop also.
A standard solution would expect the Google Maps programming team to make that available.

At the same time, I know the means through which I can achieve that.
That’s called as workaround & many persons don’t like such solutions & hence I have apprehensions to state that.

There are six different ways to achieve that.

One out of that is most simplistic, i.e., mirroring the phone screen on the desktop anyhow & then managing the apps through the mouse & up-down keys.
At the same time, the more complex ones will not need a phone.
Trust, that provides some answer to your query.

Hi C_T,

“A standard solution would expect the Google Maps programming team to make that available.”

That could be a standard solution - I don’t know. I know there are scores of Teams – with Teams within Teams - - for example a Team within the Maps Team that only works on waterways and bodies of water, etc. Given that badges, points and levels were put in place by Local Guides, I have no idea what Team might be responsible for adding the badge display onto the desktop.

But no matter – both of us would like the feature to be on the desktop version.

I do understand, btw, your hesitation to promote ‘workarounds’ ; )

That’s great @MapWrangler , after all that is all we can do at the moment.

By the way I’ve taken the liberty of marking my own comment as the solution, so Local Guides who read this thread after searching Connect will get an answer as well as know about the idea right away.
