As some of you will know from a number of previous recent posts, as well as the South Pacific Islands (e.g. Fiji and Vanuatu), earlier this year I visited New Zealand from north to south. While in lock down, I’ve been reminiscing about this trip and scrolling though my hundreds of photos and from this collection, am sharing here just a couple of Auckland which is the largest city and often mistaken as the country’s capital. It’s called the City of Sails because of its numerous yacht marinas and sailboats anchoring offshore. If you ever get the chance, I highly recommend that you visit this beautiful city.
@AdamGT always with great contributions, this time with those beautiful images of that great city that is one of the tourist destinations in New Zealand; you are very lucky to know all these spectacular places, thanks for sharing!*
Thank you for your kind comment @Robert24 . I have been quite lucky to have traveled widely…I got the travel bug from a very early age because of my parents and from this, travel became a passion and of course, what goes hand-in-hand with this passion is photography and on this, at the age of 10, an uncle gave me my first camera. Silly me as I never took it seriously enough and studied photography and so I have struggled as a hobbyist without knowing the finer details and tricks. But I’ve learned a lot from fellow LGs on this amazing community and feel that I am improving, albeit very slowly.
Thanks for sharing the post @AdamGT . What boat were you on to take these photos? I see in a comment that it took a few sail bys to get good shot.
The cars on the wharf have been a topic of discussion for many years. People don’t want cars on the wharf. They are taken off cargo ships and stored there, and have been for decades. I understand that discussion is being made about moving Auckland’s cargo up north to Whangarei and then the Auckland waterfront wharf made more people friendly. That will take many years though.
It is a shame you didn’t add photos of the marinas. There are so many around the Auckland region, many of which you wouldn’t have seen. During the summer and especially the Auckland Anniversary, there are many boats out and yachts with sails up. The Auckland Anniversary is a great sight on the Hauraki Gulf.
Thanks for sharing @OliverKIWI . I’m sure now because of the current global crisis that those ships will arrive in Auckland much less than previously, I hope.
Westhaven Marina is actually the largest marina in the Southern Hemisphere.
Looks really beautiful! It’s definitely a place worth visiting and I have it on my list of destinations. I do hope one day I step foot there and explore that side of the world. Those are unforgettable moments, and I think we’re lucky to have our cameras and photos to keep these memories with us.
