ASIA'S CLEANEST VILLAGE,MAWLYNNONG MEGHALAYA INDIA

Almost every country is now facing one of the major pollution problems. Some places do have taken up the issue and deliberate attempts have been made to clean the environment and living a sustainable life.

“God’s own Garden” is apt to designate Mawlynnong, a small village in the Indian state of Meghalaya that is considered as Asia’s cleanest village.

It was awarded as “Asia cleanest village in 2003 by Discover India magazine” and “Clea____nest village in India in 2005”.

The village is located around 80 km from capital city Shillong, Meghalaya. The village with its locales displays a serene model of cleanliness, pollution free practices and sustainable livelihood. People of this village are very much particular about cleanliness and environmental friendly. The village offers a community based ecotourism initiative of local people that encounters hundreds and thousands of tourists not only from India but also from different parts of the world. Some locales offers homestay in their house and most of them sells their commodities, which includes wide ranging varieties of handicrafts made by them. The village roads are cleaned every day and one find waste bins some meters ahead. Being very close to the Bangladesh border the village has extra advantage in tourism sector. The private tree house type viewpoints cater to the tourists who seek to see Bangladesh from distance.
