A Spiritual Journey to Shri Mayureshwar Mandir, Morgaon ![]()
Located in the center of Maharashtra is a spiritual treasure, Shri Mayureshwar Mandir, Morgaon. Morgaon is the first and most important temple of the Ashtavinayak Yatra. It is an especially treasured temple for millions of devotees start their spiritual journey from here.
Upon my arrival, I noticed the energy of the area. The temple gate gave me a calm feeling. The entrance looking out with an arch and saffron and earthy colors was adorned with traditional architecture. Bold red paint inscribed the name of the temple, “श्री मयूरेश्वर मंदिर, श्री क्षेत्र मोरगाव,” confirming its identity.
The Offering
I bought modaks, a coconut, incense sticks, and a basket brim full with hibiscus, marigold, champa flowers which served as traditional offerings too. They made me feel spiritually connected and were well rooted to the rituals practiced by pilgrims across the ages. They might seem ordinary but these tokens carry great relevance of fath giving and receiving devotion, made me feel emotionally close to the Lord.
The Experience
Barefoot, with reverence in every step, we entered the temple premises. The atmosphere was electric yet peaceful—chanting devotees, soft temple bells, and the sweet scent of incense created an aura that made time slow down. Each corner of the temple is soaked in stories, legends, and faith.
While waiting in the darshan queue, one touching moment caught my attention—a woman, eyes full of gratitude, offered a large sack of jaggery (गूळ) at the donation area. On asking, I came to know that it weighed exactly the same as her young daughter. It was a symbolic offering, fulfilling a vow she had made to Lord Ganesha when praying for her daughter’s good health. Her wish had been fulfilled, and this heartfelt gesture of donating jaggery was her way of expressing devotion and thankfulness.
These real-life moments make you realize that this temple isn’t just built of stone—it’s built of faith, fulfilled promises, and unshakable belief in divine power.
