Asahi HuuHu Kakigori: Amazing Shaved Ice with Fantastic View in Tamsui

Summer is here, there’s one thing you must not miss, that is, shaved ice! In a sub-tropical place like Taiwan, nothing can’t beat the heat as shaved ice does in hot weather (shhh, don’t tell ice cream I said that lol). The article today isn’t about Taiwanese-style shaved ice but Kakigori (かき氷), a Japanese-style shaved ice flavored with different kinds of special syrup.

Asahi HuuHu Kakigori (朝日夫婦 in Mandarin) is a small ice dessert shop. They offer several options of shaved ice, from seasonal fruits, matcha, chocolate, to brown sugar and more. The one I ordered is the seasonal special White Peach flavor, which is a small ice mountain topped with peaches and handmade peach jam. There are also chewy Shiratama Dango (mochi-like rice balls) in the bottom that marks a perfect ending for this dessert!

Besides the shaved ice, here comes another highlight for this shop. Located in Tamsui, New Taipei City, the shop is sitting right next to the Tamsui river bank, with a fantastic view of the Tamsui river! One thing to note is that the shop is very popular, so better prepare to wait for more than 30 minutes on weekends.

@ChanneLing eating with a view is probably my favourite thing to do !

I loved the riverside view it looks beautiful :heart_eyes:

The shaved peach ice looks tasty, we have a similar ice gola here but it’s usually topped with flavoured colourful syrups and salt.

Ich LIEBE dein viertes Foto!!!

@ChanneLing

What flavors are these syrups? Is the green one matcha or melon? :yum:

Hello @Stephanie_OWL ,

Vielen Dank! I’m happy that you like this article! :blush:

And yessssss, the fourth photo! It’s incredible that I got to enjoy the ice dessert along with the fantastic view.

The shop was packed when I first arrived, and the outdoor tables were also reserved. Luckily I captured the scene after the eaters finished.

@ChanneLing the green one is raw mango syrup it is quite tangy and the black one is called kalakhatta ( kala means black and khatta means sour both the flavours are tangy so to balance that they sprinkle some black salt on top
