The Arabian Chicken Mandi is a popular Saudi dish which comprises of delicious chicken cooked with native herbs and spices and is commonly served over a layer of basmati rice.
Almost all restaurants in Saudi Arabia serves this traditional food dish. The word ‘mandi’ is derived from the Arabic word nada which means ‘dew’ and relates to the soft moist texture of the meat/chicken. This dish is considered as healthy because it uses very little oil during the cooking process and is packed with flavors and taste of the perfect blend of spices. Mandi is served with the Arabic tomato chutney, hot sauce, Green chilli to enhance the taste of rice. Buttermilk (In Arabic, Laban) is also served with Mandi to smooth the digestion process. I had this tasty chicken mandi for my lunch in this local restaurant. This restaurant is famous among young people and is usually crowded during the Lunch and Dinner time. The traditional way of eating mandi is on the floor with separate food eating units. The price of one-quarter chicken mandi at this restaurant was 9 SAR (~2.5 US$) and will be sufficient for each person.
